Have some Tommi Makinen doing his thing for your time. More of a minor annoyance than a rant. I've got two things coming from Amazon, one shipped via UPS and one shipped via UPS "Smartpost". They are both sitting in the same UPS distribution center at the moment. One will be delivered to me tomorrow. The other will arrive on Saturday (maybe). At least I'm able to track this "Smartpost" package, that usually doesn't happen. What is so smart about Smartpost?

Smartpost packages are delivered by the USPS, and don't require a signature.

Yes, but UPS packages get to me on time and since I work on the same route that I live the driver knows that and will drop my stuff off at work.

It's cheaper.

Well aren't you a special little snowflake

I'm special just like everyone else.

Not that much cheaper and the service is worse in my case. This is actually one of the rare Smartpost packages I've even been able to track. Usually when you try to track it you get a "sorry, this package is in the other guys system" kind of a message regardless of whether you check USPS or UPS (or FedEx if its a FedEx Smartpost).

Cheaper for you, or for the company shipping your product?

I have to agree, both the UPS and the FedEx "SmartPost" type things are abysmally slow.

Either way I pay. It either costs me money or it costs me time and annoyance. And I guess it saves enough money that my cheapness continues to put up with the frustration that is Smartpost instead of just springing for the few extra bucks to get it sent UPS.

Precisely.
