I decided to drive by !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to see what condition it was in and check out the area. The neighborhood is pretty decent, but there are two large places that look to be abandoned.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Anywho, the biggest problem with a lot of the old houses out here are that they were built with very low ceilings, like 6'5 low, which makes it seem cramped for us 6' + tall people. So I think I will rule this one out, even though the lot is huge.

The good news is, the lot right next to it (outlines in blue) has gone up for sale, vacant lot, 1 acre, and they just dropped the price by $20,000... The question becomes, can I afford to have a new house built (building costs out here are crazy right now, we are having another building boom so construction crews are in demand again).

But the corner lot would be perfect to build a nice 2,500 sq ft shop / garage out back and not have to access it from the front. Time to count my pennies and see if I can't make something awesome happen.

Can always buy 2nd lot and wait until US housing bust 2.0 to build.

Seriously though. Why not buy the house and the lot behind it. Then you can take your time to build what you want. Then after you are in your new house, rent out the first house. In the mean time, can you demo the ceilings and build them higher? Are they drop ceilings, or real life dry wall ceilings?

better yet, buy the house and the open lot. live in house #1 while you build house #2. Move into house #2, Fix a couple things on house #1, sell, profit.

Buy the lot and go pre-fab. Cuts down on construction costs dramatically. You could have a new, beautiful place for under 150k total.

lol, if I had that much money hanging around I would just buy the 5 acre lot down the street and build my own private mini-race-circuit on it.

Being 6'3", I hate those low ceilings.

6'5" is lower than your standard door frame.

Exactly. I would have to duck to get into every room. My grandparents house is like that. My elbow can touch the ceiling with ease, its terrible.

i'm known for doing that. I'm always showing family members how they can add onto their house or just tear down and build start new.

Oh well in that case...then I don't really want them. Unless they are 80's beigemobiles. I'd take a late 80's corolla or camry for nostalgia.
