With that mileage, I'd really have an independent mechanic look it over before you spend the money.

If there is proof of timing belt and clutch replacement, that goes a long way to some of the possible major repairs coming up.

What four-cilinder did you have over there? The 2.0 8v? Or the 1.8T? If it's a dull 2.0 it's never a NP.

I think it depends on the year, I want to say we had both... Not really an expert on these. My '97 was a 2.0.

Well, did you like the 2.0? I had it in a Golf for a while and wasn't impressed. Drove a 1.8T in an Audi for a while, that was a nicer engine.

Haha, it was fine for what it was, A -> B transportation, but the 1.8T I am sure is nicer.
