Hey Oppo. I'm off to San Juan, Puerto Rico tomorrow for a few days of fun in the sun (or rain, if the forecast is to be believed). I've never been before. Does anyone have any tips on things to see and do? I'm open to all suggestions.

Haha, I'm not sure you'd want to go this week. It's supposed to start raining the day I get there and stop as soon as I leave. I picked literally the worst week in the month of May to visit.

Last time I went to San Juan (about 4 years ago) there was this little hole in the wall restaurant we stopped at. Some of the best seafood I have found on San Juan. It was in old San Juan, I cant remember the name but will try to find it.

I was just there for the third time in march
Seeing the old fort is the most popular thing to do. Its a tourist attraction due to the fact that its so old.
Back in 09 I went horseback riding in the rainforest, that would be my suggestion.
I still haven't uploaded all my pics from this years cruise but I have my pics from San Juan 2014 up. I just went around town car spotting this time since I had already been there twice haha

I remembered, it's called Aguaviva, its on the corner of Calle Fortaleza and Calle Tetuan.

Theres also a lot of little shops and stuff to walk around in that area, and its not to far from the fort.

I lived there years ago. The fort is definitely good to see. Eat the food, drink the drinks, and relax. Just wandering around Old San Juan is really cool. I'd recommend walking because the streets are super narrow.

You'll be traveling to 'Murica, so I recommend drinking Budweiser and driving pickup trucks.

1) Go to ASAO Smokehouse in Ciales. Couple of ways to get there most have at least partial tolls. Easiest way is PR-22 west out of the city till it meets up with pr-149, take that south till the intersection of pr-615 and boom you're there. About an hour outside of SJ.
2) Meet up with the Hoon Depot Manager and MoparKetchup.
3) Never come back (if you can handle the humidity, big-ass bugs, and slight-to-heavy dislike/aggression towards foreigners that is).

SURF! Yes, there are small waves and enough surf friendly beaches in San Juan...I went there for my brother's wedding (sis in law is Puerto Rican) and when we went to this fortress (because historic shit is catnip for old people) I stretched my head out of the deep windows and saw people surfing.
Me: "I'm doing that."
Family: " No you're not."
Me: " The Fuck I'm not...
Just along the main strip leading into old san Juan nearer to the bigass resort/casino's there is at least one small surf shop with a small bar owned by a young brother & sister. The tanned, long haired bother that helped me out with my board and transport to the beach was like a super friendly bro right out of SoCal but with an accent. He would even give lessons. My all day Board rental and transport was like 30 bucks.
I tried it in SoCal and was hooked after getting up the first time. I sucked but I did it almost every day the whole month I was there. The Few times I got up in Puerto Rico made irking my family on my free day worth it.

Rent an SUV (the roads are full of speed bumps), the rentals include a pass for tolls so go check out the El Yunque rainforest. If you're up for a hike, you can swim under a waterfall. While you're on the east side of the island, you might want to catch a ferry and spend a day on the Culebra island...Flamenco Beach was rated as the third best beach in the world according to tripadvisor.

they don't do that shit down there. They drink coronas and drive on the sidewalks but not in pickup trucks
also watch out for the stray dogs

Also, check this place out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_O…
It's a huge observatory to nerd out on. It was featured in James Bond Goldeneye, though they said it was in Cuba (lame). Might be a bit of a drive but it's worth it.

If it's rainy and you stay inside, Old Harbor Brewery is a cool place to check out. It's right in Old San Juan by the coast guard base and near that fort. Good food and beer. Speaking of good food, try mofongo it's a plantain dish that's a specialty in PR.
