They're going to cost me $430!!!! I got a flat in my mom's car, and am buying 2 new front tires now. The tires are about $140 apiece. The rest is labor. That is some overpriced BS right there....

Are used tires an option? Cars usually die before their last set of tires do, so they're really not a bad idea at all.

On a 2 year old, 16,000 mile Jetta that is my mom's first car she bought in the states? I don't think so....
Plus, she wants all matching tires (so they all have to be Bridgestones (?))
Basically, she's replacing a perfectly good, 16,000 mile tire on her car, and a blown out one

Well, actually that doesn't sound so bad. Right before winter I picked up a screw in my right rear Michelin PSS - patch/plug $90. Then I found out one of my winter sottozeros had a broken belt - replaced, $300. Then I put on my summers and got a flat left front from a pothole on the highway - replaced, $310. So yeah...

Whaaat? Why not go elsewhere, surely another place will be more reasonable?

Sounds like you're getting ripped off or there is something that they didn't break out in the bill. Last time I got tires mounted and balanced it was about $20/tire.

Could be worse. I put new rubbers on my car in the fall. AWD so I had to do all 4. $250 / tire, $50 / corner to mount, balance, and allign. That's a $1200 bill for tires.
Clutch was worse. $1200 parts, $800 labor. Only because the shop owner is a friend of mine and did everything at cost. That was in December. Slave cylinder and power steering both went last month. $500 for steering rack and lines, $100 for clutch hydraulics. Did the work myself.
So that's $3800 spent on maintenance in the last 6 months...
