I've commented here for a while and decided to do my first post. Here is my '95 4Runner. It makes a whopping 150 HP at a laughable 4800RPM, making the 0-60 with the anti-Jalop auto, 16 seconds. Top speed, not high. But I love it. As Chris Harris says about the 2CV, just not taking it seriously makes it fun. Besides, it's more fun off road anyway.

Welcome!
Classic 4Runners rule!

I love mine. It's taken me anywhere I've ever needed it, except for once. It's also fun to taunt buried bro-trucks with.

THE slowest? Also welcome.

That's one VERY Jalop/Oppo car mate :) All go and no show :) Love it.

Guess not, I've still lost to a Prius.

You'll be sorrrrry.....This is a land where things are not as they seem and before you realize there is no escape, you are trapped ...This, my friends, is the OPPO ZONE.
Welcome.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:25 |

I'd honestly thought my car held that particular title... But, 16 seconds and an auto? You have almost triple my car's horsepower, but by God, I think I'm faster.
...
I'm actually kind of annoyed now.

Welcome to the just got passed by a Cavalier club!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:25 |

Thanks! It's definitely a fun toy and has seen plenty of playtime! Not as much since I've moved back to Florida, but I still like to tear up a dirt road on occasion.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:26 |

this is not a completely accurate standing start, I had to turn onto the highway entrance which was down hill.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:26 |

I'll race you. In my '92 LandCruiser. And I will lose.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:27 |

That power that is never made due to gearing, 33" tires, a transmission designed by Satan himself, and weighing 3900 lbs., make merging on the interstate a game.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:28 |
|
I bet my land cruiser is slower. I've welded well north of 500 lbs of body armor on mine. Lightness is overrated anyway. Glad to have another 4x4 enthusiast on oppo!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:28 |
|
The only thing I've ever experienced nearly as slow was my friend's F-250 IDI, but it was still faster.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:30 |

Nice 80, jealous of the future Cummins swap. It might be a close race, but you at least have torque.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:30 |
|
You have torque, I don't.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:31 |

Well...never thought I'd see the day a car twice as slow as my Cavalier came along. Seriously...my 0-60 is supposedly around 8 seconds. I'll have to try it out now, but I'll still probably hit 10.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:31 |
|
TBD on the cummins (they are so damn expensive), I've been leaning more towards an LS lately.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:31 |
|
Mine kind of depends on season, in the winter I have got 18 and in summer 14, 16 is just the average.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:33 |
|
I plan, some time in the future to put in an LS, since it will easily fit and they are cheaper and lighter than a supercharged 5VZ.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:37 |
|
There's someone right now on Oppo who is doing and LS into an old 4 runner right now- http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/i-bought-a-thi…
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:39 |
|
The only thing slower that I have driven is a golf cart...
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:41 |
|
I've gotta keep an eye on that. Luckily clearance isn't as much of a problem with mine, since someone has somehow wedged a 5.9 Cummins in one.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:42 |
|
It would probably beat me to it's top speed, if it's electric. Then I would leave it.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:43 |
|
I own a Cavalier and can happily report I will out accelerate this 4 runner!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:44 |
|
Ahh yes another 4Runner oppo !! I miss mine so much I has to sell it when I went away to school !! Nothing like that 3.slow V-6 that eats headgaskets like a champ either. !!
Heres mine and Welcome !!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:45 |
|
People where i live love these. My friend has one not sure what year, but same model. They're cool. Lot of modding ability. My friend wants to supercharge his. Welcome to Oppo!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:46 |
|
My 1982 240d may be slower, 3800lbs with 65hp. Do you know how in the 80's all speedometers stopped at 85mph even though most cars could well exceed that. My speedometer only goes to 80.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:48 |
|
Never seen so many people argue who's car is slower. Also kick ass ride. Welcome
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:48 |
|
I should have, but I didn't. It made 1000 miles one way like a champ. ONLY 85 gallons of gas was destroyed. Yours was beautiful, I love them in black. Mine is on it's third set of gaskets at 180k? miles. Hoping to find some headers soon to save this set.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:50 |
|
Does it exceed that? Yeah, you have a much worse power to weight than mine. Yours is probably faster, but keep in mind, mine has probably 100 usable HP due to gearing.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:51 |
|
Thanks, I plan on eventually disgracing the Toyota world by putting an LS in it, but supercharged 5VZ's are beasts as well.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:52 |
|
Mine was a 5 speed and I got 19 mpg on the highway if you believe that but I only got about 240 miles between fillups. and I sold mine with 167k miles on it on what I believe was the 2nd set of gaskets.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:52 |
|
Thanks! You know what they say, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Mine can be driven at the limit almost all the time.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:53 |
|
Yeah, that's about right for the manuals. Not for the auto though. I have gotten 2 MPG's on one tank before.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:56 |
|
If you have the money i'd definitely go LS lol. I own a Toyota as well, but thats badass!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 22:58 |
|
I don't have the money as of yet, but sometime in the future. Hopefully before I need another set of head gaskets. People pay good money for the 3VZ for some unexplainable reason, so hopefully I'll be able to resale it after I can get an LS.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:05 |
|
Lol...2? Even these tend to get at least 8.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:08 |
|
Yeah i believe it but thats not what those things are all about they are like a multitool. It does it all I lived mine.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:08 |
|
Down hill with a strong wind, yes. 70-75 isn't really an issue, but you think the engine will explode near those speeds.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:09 |
|
Usually I get from 10-12, but... http://jalopnik.com/it-was-in-the-… The tires are now a makeshift table.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:12 |
|
I've had well past it's payload with it barely squatting, I've pulled an F150 out of a river, and I've even partially moved a 7000 lbs duramax, it was just too stuck. It's done anything I've ever put it up to, and it's never even acted like it wanted to back down. I don't ever plan on getting rid of it. I've had too many memories with it.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:13 |
|
Hahaha good job! 2 MPG is pretty much worse than most anything that isn't a mining dumptruck. Even a loaded tractor trailers get about 5-6, so you have quite the accomplishment.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:14 |
|
Yikes, mine is more comfortable at 90 than at 70, the transmission can't hunt for gears then. But 90-95 is all it has and is absolutely terrifying.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:19 |
|
Welcome! I learned how to drive on one of those (with a V6 and a manual) fun times.
As for slowest vehicle on oppo... 0-60: nope
Possibly the fastest road vehicle on oppo right next to it
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:35 |
|
After I got new tires and didn't have to drive in 4WD all the time, my average went back up to 10-12. This is all Pro-Comp tires are good for:
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:36 |
|
But the manual is the fast version! Maybe it's the slowest vehicle that tops out at just below 100.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:38 |
|
FRS?
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:41 |
|
Oh that 4 runner certainly was quick off the line, the manuals were geared REALLY low. I would routinely start out in 2nd or 3rd then shift right to 5th and ride the torque curve.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:43 |
|
So are the autos. Mine to 15 is quickkk, but then it shifts into second. If I could start in second, it would be a bit quicker.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:43 |
|
Yes the quarter panel photo bombing the picture of the bikes is my FR-S :)
good eye!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:49 |

I got to drive my cousins FRS. It was a bit different than what I'm used to, to say the least. Plenty of power for me.
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:54 |
|
Yeah, I still have not driven another car that is as eager in first gear
![]() 05/06/2014 at 23:56 |
|
It gives a false sense of hope.
![]() 05/07/2014 at 00:00 |
|
Plenty for me too.
The only time it feels slow to me is when I am riding a foot off the bumper of an M5 through the corners at a track day, and then we get to a straight...
let's just say 200<<<<<<<500 or so horsepower
![]() 05/07/2014 at 00:03 |
|
Yeah, but I would almost bet you were having a better time.
![]() 05/07/2014 at 02:27 |
|
Without a doubt, he was spending too much time worrying about how much closer the cheap Japanese sports car was going to be to the bumper of his $100k german super sedan on the next lap :)
![]() 05/07/2014 at 07:03 |

My daily driver is jealous of your 150 hp
...and welcome to Oppo.

Someday I want to own a VW van. Yours looks great.
![]() 05/07/2014 at 17:22 |
|
Mine's slower! Yet not slow enough at the same time. 4banger barely over 100hp, 4.88s, and 37s
And yes, awesome to see another offroad oppo person! (Offropo?)
![]() 05/07/2014 at 17:51 |
|
Dat flex. Mine has low gears as well. I have a friend with a V6 version of your truck, and it was a little beast.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 07:59 |
|
Not as bad as our work truck, a 1968 Deuce and a Half.
0-50.... 33 seconds.
0-60..... doesn't really happen.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 10:55 |
|
Yeah, you've won this, but I bet people get out of its way at least. It has presence.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 11:00 |
|
Usually. Most of the time we get stares like "look at this maniac" or "who in the hell would drive something that big". But in reality, it was bought for $3500, sunk about $5k into parts, and its the only vehicle for that cheap that can haul 8 tons of steel in its bed.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 11:21 |

There is a guy near my house with a bobbed one. The want is strong for it.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 19:40 |

Holy cow with a 13.9 0-60 the 914 can beat something!!!!
![]() 05/13/2014 at 20:37 |

If mine were a manual it wouldn't :(
![]() 05/13/2014 at 20:46 |

We shall meet on the high planes and race. It would the only drag race onlooking cops wouldn't notice.
![]() 05/13/2014 at 20:52 |

My exhaust is a bit original and loud, so it would be noticed. The radar would show no wrong doing.
