Everybody needs battle scars on their driveway. I've got the remnants also.

Here's a pro tip that took me a while to learn; as tempting as it is to just let the drain plug fly off and have that black oil shooting out of the hole like a gnarly case of rocket diarrhea, just loosen the plug so it starts to dribble out and wait for a while (hey being clean on your driveway takes patience. . .) until half or so of the oil has drained and then let her rip. The force of all that oil wanting to come out at once is always a mess waiting to happen. I can't tell you how much oil I have spilt over the years before I learned that being patient is what it takes to remain clean.

Well then, my excuse is that I had a short time span to change the oil, so I ripped that plug off and the splash flew out of the drip tray landing on the driveway, before I rotated the tray to catch the rest.

Kitty litter does the trick. Just use a Clarkson-tool to "massage" it in. Let it sit for a few days then rinse off, or powerwash. Friend of mine had a Polo that leaked like the Exxon Valdez. Had to this a few times before I told him to never, ever park in my driveway again.

So the funny noise must have been a filter defect?

Either that, or the o-rings in the filter cap, as those were replaced as well.
