Not one bit. I don't mean to piss on brands that I know some of you love. If you love them, I'll be hapoy for you if the US Alfa relaunch really hapoens. I'll be sad for you if Lancia does finally die, as it appears it will. But I myself have zero feelings for either of them. I just don't care. Anybody else?

IDGAF about Lancia - let them rest in peace.
I'll care about Alfa when they bring over a 2-door for around $30k.

I like lancia, only because of the Stratos, and that is only because of a little mod for bf1942 called is82 which I spent far too much time playing in high school.
Could care less about their other cars. The 8c is pretty from most angles, but the traditional tail lamps look like a spaced out stare from someon

Maybe if they were in the states I would care more, but Lancia and Alfa have more or less been dead for the entire 21st century. (8c and new 4c being the exception). Even if they did come to America the 4c would compete with the Porsche Cayman and I would buy a Porsche before a Alfa. And I would buy a Stingray before I bought a Porsche. So no I do not care about the companies or if they come to America.

Im of the opinion that fanaticism of any extreme type to any particular brand is stupid. I like what Alfa is doing lately, and I wish them the best, but I don't get all doughy eyed and garment twisted anytime one is mentioned.

Lancia has a good history- but I couldn't care less about it now, let it die, it makes no difference to me. As for Alfa- I quite like the 8C and I think the 4C has tons of potential once they fix some of the issues I've read about.

I haven't cared about Lancia for some time now. I would love to see the old Lancia to make a comeback but the truth is that it will be held on life support churning out rebadged Chryslers until the plug will be pulled.
Alfa Romeo is whole another story.

Eh, not a problem :) I love Alfa and Lancia (who died in 1995 btw), along with Jaguar, Maserati, Lotus and Aston Martin.
I don't particularly care for much else really. BMW, Mercedes and Audi could make the most wonderful cars and I wouldn't really bat an eyelid. I'm just not interested really.

I think there needs to be a clarification. Lancia died a long time ago, Alfa died too but is getting reincarnated.
I have been lucky to get to drive an Alfas a couple of times in my life and thats what convinced me they are great. I like Lancia's because of box flares, i love box flares, and the whole thing about how they changed rally or whatever, buy box flares.

Do you think Citroen or Peugeot - new or vintage - could move you?
BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires
> KirkyV
05/06/2014 at 19:25 | 1 |
Vintage absolutely. I love the SM and DS, and I've fallen a bit for the BX :) I also love Pugs like the 404 and the 505, built to conquer Africa. The 106 GTi and 205 GTi are brilliant little things as well. Proper little fun-machines. Also, the 406 coupe I think is one of the best looking cars I've seen. It's like a girl that doesn't look particularly much on the first meeting, but the more you see her the more you realise that each feature is just perfect. I'm slightly annoyed that my Alfa might not be the best looking modern car in the family fleet anymore :S
If either of them start making cars like that again, I'll pay attention. I've driven the 208 GTi on a trackday, and that's a definite step in the right direction, but I want to see a return to the hydraulic Citroens that rise off the ground when you start them. Cars have a little less Jetsons-style futurism in them these days, which I think Citroen could make a real party piece out of.

Exactly! I want Citroen making utterly bonkers future-mobiles, and Peugeot building some of the most fun conventional, everyday cars money can buy. It's what they do - or, at least, should do - best.
BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires

05/06/2014 at 19:41 | 1 |
Yes :) Citroen should be making the Tesla Model S but with hydropneumatic suspension, and Peugeot need to reclaim their hot-hatch crown from RenaultSport. They can start with making a less frumpy looking car than the 308. Their lineup from the '80s through to the early '00s had such snappy design, which I feel they've lost recently. Citroen's done well with the DSx range, especially styling-wise, but I think Peugeot's floundered a little.
It may be something to do with them relying so heavily on the French market and not expanding overseas so aggressively, so when the EU market went into decline they were put on the back foot.
Hopefully they'll put something together that's worthy of their names :)

I'm in the same boat as you. FCA can do really well with Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep here in the USA. Now that the two companies are one, I see no reason that FIAT proper and Alfa Romeo need to come to the States when the money is going to the same place.
Moving Chrysler into the realm of Chevrolet and Honda is a bad move when it already has a reputation for being a premium marque. And with FIAT in the market now, the two will be cannibalizing each others' sales.
Still, since FIAT is here, the way to make this work is to have FIAT be the economy brand, Dodge fill the performance niche, and use Chrysler as a luxury brand. We don't need Alfa Romeo. We don't. If you bring Alfa Romeo over to the States as a luxury performance brand, you leave precious little market for a performance-oriented Dodge (which will be sharing platforms with Alfa) to take advantage of unless you price the Alfas into Jaguar territory.
FCA is a hot mess, and I would rather Alfa Romeo die than let it and FIAT muscle in on Chrysler and Dodge.

In a business where everybody is trying to move upmarket (still blows my mind that a $70k Hyundai is a thing), it seems more than a little backwards to move a brand down-market. I don't think Alfa and Dodge will cannibalize each other too badly, as they target very different customers, but the idea that they'll be sellink 150,000 Alfas here within four years is laughable.

I don't care about Lancia, I think they are ugly and since they aren't sold in America I have no experience with their driving dynamics to make me overlook their appearance.
I do love Alfa.

The problem is that since Dodge seems to have a negative reputation, FCA needs to consider what people will spring for: a familiar brand with a checkered history or a brand that is now totally unknown? It depends on how they price Alfa, honestly. If they price it high, then Dodge and Alfa will be out of each other's way. If they price it within, say, $5000 of a similarly equipped Dodge, however, then we're going to have a problem. VW sales figures are a prime example. It costs little to get yourself into an A4 over a similarly equipped Passat. Why wouldn't you choose the Audi? Audi sales are up, VW are down.
