You won't get stuck, they said. But then again, they weren't driving an overloaded SUV that won't go into 4WD.

What "they" dont tell you is that the salt flats are an oozing goo trap all times of year except the dead of summer. I tried to film out there one year and found out. Visiting salt lake or just passing through?

I'm on a road trip with my brother. We're passing through on our way to Denver, but once we get unstuck we'll probably stay in SLC for the night

We were! I'm with my brother and we even joked about that episode before we got here. And then this. But neither of us knew the 4wd was busted

That's very kind! AAA will be here in about 20 min (allegedly) so we should be fine, but I'll gladly take some restaurant recommendations. The places that popped up when I did a quick check beforehand were Pats BBQ and lone star taqueria. Are those good?

Avenues bistro on third in the morning. Moochies is pretty good. Hectors up on 3300s is awesome. There is also an amazing place at the Parleys Summit exit at the top of 80 called No Worries that is phenomenal.

My Mom has a story about maxing out a rented Aerostar on the flats with some freinds while on a business trip. Thelost track of which direction they had come from and were lost with not much gas until the sun started setting and they could see city lights on the horizon. They followed the lights until they found a road and made it back safely. They made sure to get the expensive undercarriage wash before returning the van.

damn. I was saying that the wife and I were thinking about going to Lone Star last night. Didn't. Stayed home and made magaritas. I have to say, being a Texan, Pat's is not so good to me. R&R off 6S/3W is by far the best I've had!
![]() 05/06/2014 at 10:31 |

R&R is the closets to texas bb I've found in salt lake, the owner is a nice guy too.

Agreed. It doesn't beat my favorite texas spots, but hey, I'm not in Texas. Also, I don't know why I don't love love it, but Goodwood is pretty darn good. Maybe it's the serving style/ambiance/price.

goodwood is okay, but not great. What part of Texas are you from again? Im sure we've covered this before. and I know i've seen you are in Utah...what part?

Born and raised in San Antonio. Spent a few years in Apache Junction, AZ. But, being a stones throw (in Texas distance) from some of the best brisket was pretty sweet. It did make me a bit of a snob. haha. We live in Draper and I work at the airport. Been here since last September.

I lived in Amarillo, Lubbock, midland, Odessa and a few other places in 2 years a while back...man i miss the food. I'm just north of you in sandy by the library, what do you think so far?

Food options are pretty mediocre around where I live. Feels like all the good stuff is downtown or up in the mountains. There are a few decent places past the point, but I value my life a bit more than a good burrito. But I'm pretty happy here. Excited to explore the mountains and do some hiking now that it's warming up.

Good burgers at salt city burgers at quarry bend, other than that its kind of hit or miss with the small shops.

I'm surprised it has been so hard to find a good burger joint. All this char-grilled stuff is just not doing it for me. We went to Rich's and wasn't impressed at all. Tasted like a backyard burger my dad makes. Just not as good. Crown/Apollo taste like BK.

Crown sucks balls, but im amazed you didn't like Rich's...freaking love that place. Lucky 13 is supposed to be good too.

Haha. We had the blue wing and green chili. Maybe they had an off day. We do love Spitz right across the street. That place is awesome. I've heard about Lucky 13. It's next on my list.

I've had an off day at rich's, though they are usually on the ball. Try the artichoke burger...hot damn thats a good burger.

I'll give it another try. There's gotta be a great place somewhere
