I've never been to a rally. So I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I packed my car this morning for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in Eastern Ontario. I printed the recommended maps, packed my camera, threw in a small lunch and went driving.

I got close to the observation point on the stage and by coincidence met up with another Opponaut (thebigbossyboss), who informed me that the road was closed up ahead. Fortunately at that moment another 2 guys rolled up who knew the area and we followed them to the second observation area.
The road got smaller and smaller and it turns out the recommended route from the organizers was not ideal. I ended up getting into their car and getting a ride to the stage. The marked off observation point required us to peer through the trees, but just hearing those rally mufflers and overrun was totally worth it.
The main reason I wanted to go was to try my hand at automotive photography, so I spent the new couple of hours changing settings to see what worked. There were maybe a dozen cars, and each made 6 passes through the day. I ended up taking close to 500 photos, of which maybe 10% worked out. I started with a slower shutter than I probably should have, but towards the end of the day I had started to zero in on good settings. Another photographer even lent me his 50mm lens to try out so that was cool.
One of the WRXs blew through the pass and a guy next to me remarked how they seemed to be travelling way faster than the car in front. Not 5-10 minute later, the marshal sitting in the Jeep across the road mentioned that that same car ended up rolling at the end of the stage. Occupants were fine, but their driving day was over.
The cars themselves were an eclectic collection of Subarus, Focii and Civics. The oldest was I think an '88 Golf. They all seemed pretty competitive but I haven't checked the final results.
It was a pretty fun day to spend in the woods and I look forward to visiting and shooting other rally and road races in the future. If you want to view and download the rest of my ultra wallpaper sized photos, I made an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Is the STI in the 6th picture stock?

I believe so. It's car 00, and sweeps the stage after all the other cars have gone through. It had sweet lights.

I am so sad I had to leave. I wanted to go with in the SUV! At least I ended up with the piano. Lol. How much further was it down the road?

That road connected to another better road about a KM down. A couple other guys ended up following the same directions in a Mazda 3 and lowered WRX but had we gone the right way first, you'd probably be able to see at least one pass. I think the organizers just lifted the Garmin "shortest route" without actually checking it first.
