I hate bad car commercials. Wait, I hate bad MODERN car commercial. We are constantly bombarded with car ads. More so during the Christmas season. However, the thing I've realized lately is how awful they are. I think we can all agree how bad the Cadillac ELR commercial was:
But I think the thing that bothers me the most about car commercials is either how bland they are, or a commercial taking themselves too seriously. It's not so much what kind of car the commercial is trying to sell, but how they do it. When I'm trying to be sold on a product I want to be drawn in and left with the thought, "That was cool!".
Here's an example:
Everything about the commercial was incredible (despite it being a v6). The camera shots, colors, and choice of music. It all comes together and forms the attitude of what the Mustang personifies.
The ad that sent me off the brink of insanity is the new Mazda3 commercial:
Everything about it is awful. Not the car, the commercial. Maybe it's just me, but I can't understand what exactly Mazda is trying to do here. We have Bruce Lee, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Jackie Robinson, and the Mazda3 all in the same commercial with the Capital Cities' overplayed track, "Safe and Sound". I slightly understand where they wanted to go with this commercial, proclaiming their own innovative underdog personality, but they failed. I think it was the music they chose that really got me. With all that being said
Dear Automobile Manufacturers,
Please stop making crappy car commercials.

I happen to like the cadillac ad quite a bit. Too each their own.

it's like you were reading my mind. I have the exact same opinion on all three commercials. The Mazda one drives me crazy. It sucks because it's such a great car. The mustang one I wish all commercials were like that. Too bad you couldn't order a v6 from the factory with that body kit

The only one I thought was cute was the kid in her car seat by Hyundai.
Seriously, those Mazda commercials are just plain awful. It's like mixing fruit juice with rice.
