From the comune of Zimella in Italy, letting me know of elections of some sort that will be taking place shortly and that I can there and vote if I so desire because, apparently, I am officially an italian citizen after all. Wait, that means me and car are conterraneous now!

I get those from time to time, I usually don't vote, as the possible candidates (for representatives for "abroad citizens") are laughable.
I sometimes feel ashamed so many people with so little actual interests in politics simply join a list for the chance of getting a nice, handsomely-paid, political place in some European country's parliament. In my case I KNOW the representative out of the Uruguayan community (who, luckily, doesn't get many votes) is a worthless piece of shite.
I just vote on referendums, that's where I think it counts.
Also, some ten or so years ago my father got a letter asking if he would like to join the Italian Army, as he was eligible for applying (though it was no longer mandatory or anything). But they also mentioned that being so far away and actually not being a young man they were OK with him not applying.
He was 48 at the time, off course he just threw away the letter... I never got any letter like that.
