No, it isn't the hottest, sexiest, fastest, coolest car in the world. Yea the Scion xB might be better. But my father owns one of those and it just excite me. The Cube does. In a weird way. It certainly has some unique styling. And it's pretty affordable. I could probably find one lightly used for 10 grand because, around here, it doesn't seem very desirable. But I think it's neat from an aesthetic standpoint. Never been in one though. Never drove one or sat in one or even looked at one. But something about these just screams Japan and that's kind of what I like about them I guess. Anyone have opinions on these?

JDM ones look good for a box on wheels. The conversion to American crash standards ruins their looks. Dumpy butts and squared-off corners don't mix well.

its a car designed for young millennial hipsters mostly bought by old people, just like every other car that follows this trend.

One of my buddies has a 5MT Cube, and the one thing I noticed when I drove it is that the stick is waaay too low to be comfortable. Very awkward.

If Doug DeMuro can rock it, it's acceptable. I'll join you in admitting that I can accept that it's a visually nice car. Not sure I would want to personally own one though.
That said, if it were my only option, I wouldn't feel compelled to hide my face.

I haven't driven one, but from what I hear they are pretty shitty, and dreadful to drive. Probably could get something better for the same money.

For the love of all thats holy, it isn't even symmetrical. Its the antithesis of aerodynamics and flies in the face of car design. You'd have to be a counter culture weirdo to get one.

And that's why I like it. It's so different. YOU JUST DON'T GET IT MANNNNNNNN.

Their marketing slogan would have been: "Nissan Cube, a Honda Element with less off-road capability", not like the honda element has much off road capability, just you know, some

I used to work with a guy with a Krm one with a manual. It was pretty cool. I have liked the cube since day 1. Like the juke, It's a funky little thing that stands out in its class.

Believe it or not, it wasn't that simple. The one you're calling JDM is actually the first-gen. The second-gen is what came to the US. I'm not sure if the reason it grew was a conversion to US standards, but all second-gen cars look like that — even in Japan. God I know too much about the Cube.

Trust me — you would after a while!

It's actually even more complicated than that. There were two generations before the current global model: a rather boxy, wedgey thing between 98 and 02 and then the more popular and handsome 02 to 08 model. Either way, I hate what the bumpers do to the silhouette on the current gen.

I own an 09. It's a decent car if you can get over the fact that all your friends will make fun of you. Most people give you a hard time about owning one until they go for a ride in it, then just say that it's 'not as bad' as they thought it'd be. If you can call that a moral victory, you can drive this car.
Contrary to how this post is going to appear, I am a car guy but after having a few bad experiences with modified cars I mostly stick to driving cheap, reliable econoboxes.
The Cube is not as 'fast' as an XB nor does handle like a Fit Sport, but it has a few things going for it: It's got tons of headroom, the visibility is great, it gets decent mileage, and best of all I was able to get a CPO Cube with under 40k miles on it for around ten grand. That included a 100,000 mile Nissan warranty. The CVT is an acquired taste. We put about 20,000 miles on ours in the past 18 months and it's been trouble-free.
I'm happy with ours, it's a perfect cheap machine for your standard middling-thirties parents with two kids. Now if I could just get my wife to stop slamming the rear hatch like she's spinning the wheel on The Price is Right, I'll be good to go.

My hairdresser drives one. She loves it. That's all I can say about that.

Dropped off my Infiniti at the Nissan dealership for body repairs. Smirking, the lady at the counter said all the Altima loaners were gone; I would have to drive the Cube. It was slow, had a cheap interior, the paint was hue best described a metallic turd, and the steering wandered all over the road. The interstate was a white-knuckle experience. Worst of all, my coworkers called it "rolling birth control." I have never been happier to return a car.
