I'm graduating college next spring, and before I leave to home, my mom wants to have a nice family vacation. I said I wanted to go to a race. Last year I told her about Le Mans and she's game. I'd love to go. But, where would you go? Monaco is too soon. I'd love to see F1 @ Spa, but I can't justify the family spending all that money for the lackluster sounds of F1 this year.

If not Monaco or LeMans, I would go to either the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Good Revival. Where else will you see a huge variety of cars going flat out?

Answer I tell people so they don't think I'm a simpleton: F1 at Monza

Real Answer: NASCAR Nationwide at Road America

Good call. Count this as one more vote for the amazing Goodwood Revival. Bonus points if you go in period correct attire!

There is only one answer.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed. World's classiest annual motoring weekend. A hill climb rally nestled between paddocks with the most beautiful vintage racers, road cars, new concept cars and everything in between. Lots of celebrities mingling with the crowds, and you'll get to smell and hear every single car on the hill climb stage. There's also a rally stage out back in the forest.

I've been three times. Each time making a serious effort to get there. It's about 1.5 hours from London. It's on during the last weekend of June. And the next weekend is the F1 in Silverstone.

I'm actually going up to see the Vintage Race up at Elkhart this year. My Aunt and uncle have been going for a long time, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Kinja'd!!!

If we're talking actual "dream races" I'd love to go see one of the WEC races... Le Mans is the holy grail, but I think even a 6 hour like at CotA would be fun. I just really want to see the Audi, Toyota, and Porsche battle.

That's the one I would choose. I mean Goodwood would be great, but I don't have that kind of money and Elkhart would be a great road trip.

I love the sound of Nascar, but it's not my thing. They all look the same. Rather see GTs battle it out, or the best from the P1s.

I would actually love to see this. I love road trips as well. It would be much cheaper. But, driving from MD, with it be enough entertainment for such a drive?

US Grand Prix. In the Porsche VIP tent.

Which reminds me, I need to call my hook up.

Well, I GIS what it was and the first picture was definitely NSFW, then another borderline picture, then this one. It looks fun, but I don't think I have a good argument. And honestly it's even farther away and less prestigious. Rather Le Mans and a strip club after.

F1 anywhere really. But most likely the only race I'll go to this year after this week's race at Laguna Seca is IndyCar at Sonoma

Is F1 still worth it? I've never been and I'm sure it's worth it, but the sound doesn't seem to be what it was. I want a pack screaming cars flying past.

I've never been either. But I agree the sound will definitely itely alter the experience. But it would still be awesome and worth it in my opinion.

My Uncle and Aunt usually go for the whole weekend. They say there's a mix of old F1 cars, and last year there were a few GT40's and old racing Porsches. The racing is pretty good too, and despite a few crashes in recent years you can get reasonably close for pictures.

Exactly. Goodwood is awesome, but I'd feel so out of place among the super rich. This one is a little more fun, and even the really wealthy people there are the type to sit down, grab a beer, and just talk cars with you.

Thanks for sharing. I remember someone was posting about Trans Am historic racing last week and I really wanted to attend a race. Unfortunately, they all seemed far away, but a road trip to WI would be worth it. Especially if there are some GT40s.

I would love to go to Goodwood, but as for now I am only close to Indy and about 4 hours from Road America. Both of which have a host of races, some of which I am going to! Very excited for this summer!

I don't have a definite answer yet.

If I'm able to, there needs to be somebody from a different shift to fill in for me. The hard part is finding that person to willingly come in. As we have a low number of staff.

By this time tomorrow, I will have an answer.

Indy cars on street or road courses are pretty cool. I was at Barber last weekend and loved it. They also had Pirelli World Challenge, which is amazing sports car racing because they are flat out the whole time since the races are short.

That is a pic from the LeMans classic race that happens once every two years and the next one is this July. I've been, it is epic beyond words, but I will head to the Laguna Seca Historics this summer and save the airfare for trackside swag.

Don't overlook the Canadian GP. Montreal's a great city to visit in addition to the race, the race itself is generally good, and it's a pretty easy drive from MD. I haven't made it back in a few years, but it's definitely someplace I want to visit again.

Touché...^Yeah that's about my speed. Like, all of that.

Ionno Cota, California stuff or Watkins Glen for the US both have great wine country and vintage races representing a big slice of what you might see at Goodwood, along with the carshows and ambiance. Cheap(er) and fun for everyone. Some tater cam stuff I didn't have time for much else. I know you said nascar ain't your groove but honestly the best show in the sport right now is at The Glen because its loud, aggressive an a good splash of everything great about 'Merican racing.

...European rallies?

If my wife weren't pregnant, I'd head up to Indianapolis for the Brickyard Vintage. As it is, I am praying to the gods of racing that this ends up being an annual or biennial event, because my daughter and dad would want to go. Hell, my little brother probably would too.

Go to a V8SC race, perhaps Gold Coast or Bathurst. Gold Coast is like a week long party in build up to the racing over the weekend, and Bathurst is just an epic race to go see, a 100km enduro like no other. For holidaying purposes I would say Gold Coast, since there are beaches and themem parks and other fun touristey things.

Le Man's or Goodwood. Did Le Man's last year and it was quite the experience. Ben to the Festival of Speed a couple of times and it is the best non racing event I've been to. Amazing cars and cool people. I spent 15 minutes talking to Dan Gurney about motorcycles. Doesn't get much better than that.
