A very very very long time ago, I mentioned around here about this very cool 80's Mercedes I see down the road from my house. I've been trying to get a pic of this car but its rarely out of its garage. Its locked up in its garage so much, the guy keeps a 72-73 mustang outside under a cover just so this will have a space inside.
I am not positive but I THINK its a 500E. I don't really know old benzes so well. If I get a chance I will try to get a clear picture of it but I don't want to just stop outside the guys house and start snapping pictures, he'll think I'm coming back to steal it or some shit. I took a video of this car as I drove past on my phone and cropped a couple of shots out of it.
500E for comparison
I'm almost tempted to stop by in the 745i one day and strike up a conversation with him if I see him outside, at least in NJ you can't legally shoot someone for being on your property. Legally
Edit: did I find a Renntech 600E? This car looks correct right down to the wheels, and they both are in NJ. Its very possible I just found the exact same car on google. I really think I need to talk to this guy the next time I see him outside with this car, there has to be a reason this 20 year old mercedes is in a garage while a restored mach 1 is outside under a car cover. Nobody in their right mind would do that if this car was a 300D on wheels.

I'd call it a 500E.

Yup, that's a 500. As I recall, they had to flair the fenders to accommodate the wider front track.

didn't the hammer also have those?
NOT JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS, just saying, the front bumper doens't 100% match the 500E but I really don't know my benzes very well

I own a W124 E class and I can tell you from the pictures you provided that its a 94-95 (last years of production) that its most likely a e420 or a e500. You can tell its a late model W124 because of the revised headlights and the fact it has wipers on the headlamps which means it was optioned with the "cold weather package" including two front dual level headed seats. The rims I can't exactly see clearly but they're certainly aftermarket and non-Mercedes.
The other thing is that the front bumper is the AMG style thats isn't found on the lower trim 300E or the E300D I own.

Why would they remove that sweet, sweet spoiler if it was a Hammer? ;)
I'm not 100%, but it looks from the photos that it has flared fenders like the 500E. The other E's didn't have that at all ... at least I don't think they did.

I'm guessing its a 500E, which is still a very cool car in its own right.
I'll try to get some clearer pictures, this isn't over!

yeah the wheels are aftermarket which always threw me off. Its a very good looking car how its setup though. Makes my 745i look like an even bigger piece of crap by comparison

No, it's an amazingly cool car in its own right. It's not often that those two Stuttgart volks work together on things. I love the 500E for its completely understated badassery.

The bumper matches the 500E exactly from your second picture. The Hammer had a tiered lower air dam as opposed to the flat curved air dam of the 500E (below)
Plus the car you saw is missing the small kick-out on the rear bumper.

I think the hammer has bigger fog lights to now that I look at it

So, doing some history googling on the 500E, I found out brabus, renntech and kleeman all did versions. This car in this link actually looks really close to what I saw right down to the wheels

IN FACT, Those cars both have new jersey plates, I'm betting its the same fucking car!

I don't think they're worth more than a classic mach 1 though.

I don't know man, its looking very probable. More reconnaissance will take place and I will report back at a later date with my findings.
I have seen the back of the car once and it was debadged just like the one in the pics. Those wheels also look correct to me and I haven't seen any other 600E's online with the same wheels.
