Too often I see fools slam on their brakes before exiting the expressways.

Step 1: Slam on brakes
Step 2: Use turn signal
Step 3: Begin turning off the freeway
That's the proper order, right?

Same thing applies for turn lanes...

So much facepalm. This is so abundant here. That other post about stupid things missed this one, but it's very similar to the "oh a turning lane, I'll wait until halfway down it to actually merge out of my lane while riding my brakes!"

this is why you shouldn't call them "turn signals" that signal you are turning, I prefer to call them "indicators" as in these indicate my future intent, not my current action

Yeah I was just commenting about that. People man, people.

No No No No NO!
The proper order is:
1. Place yourself in the farthest left lane.
2. Ignore signs for upcoming exit you need to take.
3. Wait until 100 feet before off ramp
4. Turn on left signal.
5. Slam on brakes.
6. With left signal still applied, cut right across ALL lanes to make your exit.
7. Cut off driver on exit ramp, then immediately slow to a crawl even though there is no one in front of you.
8. Wait for driver you cut off to give you middle finger, then speed off at twice the safe exit ramp speed.

Haha, just saw it. So annoying! Haha.
Orrrr.... People using exit-only-lanes to get ahead of rush hour traffic.
My exit only lane is always riddled with people like this, I don't often honk at people, but when they use this lane to get ahead in traffic, therefore blocking my exit lane, I honk at them A LOT.
The exit lane I ride in to get off my exit is usually fairly clear, while the 3 lanes next to it are always jampacked.

You're right. I had someone perform most of those steps this morning. Clearly, I'm not as good at this as you guys are. I concede.

I prefer to call them an annoyance and never use them.

yeah I don't understand people who do that. You really don't get far enough ahead to save any amount of time. And you just end up being the asshole holding people back from exiting.

I slam on the brakes in the right lane so I can fully enjoy the entire length of the exit ramp, drinking it in like a fine wine.

The proper order... to getting a punch to the face!

I hate all the orphans in the whole world!

Mind you it is rather unavoidable for some exits because of poor design.
![]() 05/01/2014 at 14:20 |

This is true. But most people still slow too much in those situations.

In most cases yes. However there is one particularly egregious one around here that lets the cars waiting at the light back up onto the freeway, through the (brief) exit lane and onto the main lanes. I hate that exit.

yikes, that's just simply terrible design right there. There are, to be fair, a few on ramps as well in my area that don't give drivers enough room to speed up and they merge into the left lane, which is also horrendous design. You'd have to really gun it to get up to speed, so it causes a lot of traffic. People shouldn't have to really gun it WOT.

Like this one that gives you literally one second to merge?

LOL yeah except it merges in to the left lane, because that's a good idea.
