Well, I didn't pitch my overland sub-blog idea to Matt and I'm not going to make one...for now...but I do have lots to post and I would like to bring on some guest writers in the industry/field to talk a little about seeing the world by vehicle, so I am starting a little "series" tagged...yup...The World By Vehicle or TWBV.
I haven't settled on the name, and frankly its all very informal, but I needed an outlet and I like oppo better than so many of the forums and sites dedicated to this type of thing already, even with Tiger.
The point of this series is two fold:
1. Vent my wanderlust
2. Aggregate all the cool stuff I see on the subject of vehicle based adventure travel into a format that I enjoy reading.
I'm going to be pulling from my personal experience, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as well as from sites like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and Youtube and other various sources.
Gear/Vehicle reviews, trips, advice, logs....you name it. First up is a great video from the XO team titled "It barely makes sense" which sums up nicely this sickness I have called overland fever.
These guys are doing what I want to be doing someday and they just wrapped on a very good Yukon series (13 part) that's definitely worth watching. I'm hoping to talk these guys into maybe writing on here, we'll see.

Hammer— I like where your head's at. Expedition driving has always been a big passion of mine as well, and I'd love to see more of it in the Jalopnikverse. Shoot me an email when you get a chance; andrew at jalopnik dot com.

I'm about to embark on a lengthy overland trip; I'll try to connect it back into this, somehow.

Well, I'm currently still building up my truck. I've got most everything squared away, but departure date depends on how long the backorder on my suspension kit lasts. Nothing too ambitious, mostly just a loop of the western states and maybe a jaunt into Canada. I've got about 2 months budgeted for the whole shindig, and I'm trying to do as much of it un-paved as practical.
Since this photo, I fabbed up a new bed rack that is level with the roof, since the tent was really a pain in the ass to get in and out of when it's that low. Future mods include a snorkel, bigger tires, and gears/lockers. I also need to cut out some lexan or something, as the turbulence off the light bar is absurd. Using cardboard, I found a fairing shape that works, but the last heavy rain kind of... melted it.
Inside is pretty simple. I've got light switches on the overhead console, and media/nav is handled by a Surface Pro tablet with a USB GPS puck and topo map software.

your trip sounds amazing I'm really jealous. if you need any help with western states particularly Utah I can be resource. you wouldn't happen to be ordering your kit to TJM would you? I'm waiting on my kit too, but my 3 day is coming up soon with or without it. getting the regear done right now along with a top end rebuild. I'd be stoked if you used the tag that I use for this type of thing, TWBV, for your updates...either way, so long as we hear about them. what fortune offers you 2 months travel?
