Man, I wish I knew someone who had iRacing so that I could try it out. I have a Fanatec wheel/pedal setup that would work with a computer but I don't know if my laptop is sufficient to run the game. I've been interested in it for years but have never run across anyone who has it. Yargh!

Come on over! But ncasolowork had some free trial codes for you. He might still have a couple.

Well the big thing is system requirements. The graphics card is obviously some built-in number in this laptop, which is described as "Intel HD Graphics (Core i3)" and I have no idea how that stacks up to iRacing's statement to the effect that: "NVidia GeForce 7800 / ATI Radeon X1800 or above graphics adapter recommended"

Might cut it a little close with that. Which laptop is it? I'll tell you what chip you likely have.

It's a Dell Latitude E5410. Processor is an Intel Core i3, 2.27GHz. 4 gigs of RAM. Running Windows 7 Professional.

You'll cut it close but you should be able to run it at a usable level.

That might work, but it isn't going to be brilliant. Latitudes are basically made to discourage things of that nature... It's definitely not a GeForce 7800. Have you run any other games on it?

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. As a driver I obviously have a natural tendency to blame the machinery if I don't win. There's nothing that makes me want to break things in anger faster than a laggy racing game.

Ha. If it makes you feel any better, I run on pretty much an identical machine most of the time, and it gets the job done. I've never had lag problems running iRacing.

No sir. It's my work computer and, sadly, it's the newest thing I have. Other than that I have a 12'' powerbook G4 that I bought back in 2005. Yikes. I would buy a better computer specifically to run iRacing but then I'd want a real race seat and the whole sim setup would spiral wildly out of control. All of that would be fine, except that I expect to buy a house in a year or so and I don't want to set up a whole mess of things just to move them. I think I probably ought to keep waiting at this point, and continue skulking around Forza 4 with the other children and troglodytes.

Yeah, I'd buy the house first. I cannot buy a house, but I do have a (very oudated now) gaming PC and Logitech G25. I sit in my office chair. A racing seat would be nice, but a chair works fine. If my brother or I win the lottery, we're going to drop about $60k on a racing simulator...

Well, that does make me feel better. If I could just convince my work to give me a newer computer I'd probably be out of the woods. Still, I guess I could try it if I happened into one of those 1 month free codes. I didn't ask before because I was sure my dumb laptop wouldn't run it.

Well I'd have a better sim setup by now because I really enjoy it but I've been spending all my extra money on my real car and (unfortunately) real consumables. As much as it sucks to pay for actual track time, it always beats out spending on a sim. If you happen to find out that one of those free trial codes is still available I'd give this a whirl on my Dell just to see if it works. I mean it's not like I would be out anything just trying it.

Yeah, I'd definitely try it. I wish I had the money to get real track time. Most of my "extra" money goes to keeping my car on the road to get me to work. iRacing is mega-helpful in letting me escape my reality.
