Eric at Backstreet Perforamance and I have been thrashing for a few weeks to get the clutch/driveshaft/scattershield/driveline back under my car. Turned out great and I think we're ready. Did a bit of weight reduction while we were at it and installed a master cutoff switch. I'm heading to the ECTA standing mile event in Wilmington, Ohio this weekend to go after a couple records!

Yeah, the car has never been as far apart as it was since last november and it was a big bite to Chew. All my bolt baggies were complete though and things went together with satisfaction.

How do you like running the mile? I imagine its awesome. I've never even been let alone drive it.

I have the ECTA C/Gt record now at 174.55 with 450whp in my H/C/I C5z. It's not as thrilling as you might think in a good safe car, but it is nice to get to run the car out most of the way rather than let off. Highly recommended you try it. They have a class for everyone.

Thanks! Trying to keep it clean and not taking shortcuts that I'll have to redo later. Stock appearing '02 C5z in black outside. CNC ported heads, small cam, headers, fast 102 intake, McLeod Dual disk, Quicktime bellhousing, 14" front brakes, bigger spring and bar in the front with Koni rebound adjustables. 6 Point cage, Kirkey containment seats, fire surpression, sparco wheel/harnesses. I run the car at autocross and Optima invitaitonal events as well. It's heavier than stock now at 3125 with 3/4 tank of gas, but the safety stuff is good.

Awesome! 174.55 mph is quite a feat!
I was thinking about running a mile this summer at the Battle Creek air show in Michigan they have a Michigan Mile even. I certainly wouldn't get going as fast as you are with a purpose built Vette, but I think it'd be a lot of fun non-the-less to see how fast my SHO can get going in a mile. I imagine I wouldn't need to do much to prep beyond clearing out my interior and getting as much weight out of the car as possible? I recall looking up and if you expect to stay under certain speeds there isn't much safety equipment necessary.

Yeah, generally 135 is with stock interior, 150 is harness and rollbar, 175 is seats and fire supression, 200 is full 10 point cage and a chute (not something I'm willing to do for my streetcar). Your car will more than 135 though. adding 50mph to your 1/4 trapspeed is an indicator if you haven't done it before. Word of warning is it's additive and you may want some safety equipment. Letting off the gas before the end is like having pull out during sex...just not quite as satisfying as otherwise.

Hmm, that puts me roughly in the 155 - 165 mph range.
I checked the rules for Michigan Mile, they require roll cage for open top vehicle.

I certainly wouldn't be against having some safety equipment, but having a roll cage installed in a SHO sounds rather elaborate, lol.
And yes, having to let off the gas would SUCK.

The fastest I've driven is a GPS and speedo indicated 166 mph! I'm constantly fixated on these types of events now but I've never taken the plunge. I wish my car was set up for this! All my jealous

Gearing will play into it as well and I get lucky that I'm right at power peak in 5th at 175. Have pics of your car? Any mods?

166 is flying under not-so-controlled conditions. Where do you live?

Well heck, your 166 is on the Autobahn then right? 166 would be fine under those conditions. What kind of car was it?

It's a black stock '10 SHO, I will be running a Livernois Stage 4+ tune and catless downpipes. So it's a sleeper, haha, no exterior mods. I may get springs for a firmer and somewhat lower ride. I've also considered painting the wheels gunmetal grey. But I'm mostly concerned with performance before I put any money into the visuals.
I just looked up my tires, they are V rated, which is 149 mph according to wikipedia, this could be a problem?
Not my car, but that's what it looks like.

Very nice. Yeah, that thing could come in around 150+ no problem with ecoboost turned up http://ecta-lsr.net/?page_id=30 are some sample rules that cover the basics. This is for the ECTA, which is kind of strict and based on Bonneville rules. Different sanctioning bodies may be less strict.

Sweet, I just found out my tires, according to tirerack, are Y-rated, so that's plenty of headroom there and plays nice with the rules. It seems Michigan Mile is definitely less strict from what I read in your link.

Go out and have some fun then. Texas mile is less strict as well and may take my car there someday when I have more power. Let me know what you find in terms of suit/helmet/other things necessary to do 150 + in Michigan. I have a lot of friends there that may want to go.

They require SNELL 2005/2010 "SA" rated helmet and balaclava and SFI 3.3 Racing gloves. Other than that you need "durable shoes" and clothing that covers torso and legs (non synthetic).
All this is if you stay under 190 mph.
briannutter1
> Yowen - not necessarily not spaghetti and meatballs
04/30/2014 at 14:59 | 0 |
whoa....not strict at all. balaclava and gloves are cheap. Motorcycle helmets snell ratings aren't the same, so that "could" be a problem in Tech depending on where you go.

Yeah, I'll have to look into helmets, never shopped for a car-helmet before, I've only ever used helmets for jetski racing, haha. Those are more of a dirt-bike style.

G-Force has in inexpensive Carbon one. The 2010 will be good at events for the next 5 years plus.

It's has 365 hp 420 tq on my conservative tune, as it's my daily.
Never did any exterior mods, kept her a sleeper as much as a wrx can be. Exterior mods are expensive! I never got around to them!

That's a nice setup! reliable too! Yeah, I don't like overstated exteriors either. My crewchief Eric tells me I should buck up for light wheels etc., but performance per dollar is key for my budget.

I'm considering methanol water injection, some people live and die by it. Allegedly forged bottom end + methanol knock protection = power and peace of mind

oh and I simply cannot afford aftermarket wheels.
When my girlfriend asks for rides in my RACECAR it's implied we are going to the gas station cuz she's empty
