With the goal of keeping drivers around him from being distracted, a Florida man set up a jammer in his SUV during his commute on I-4. The FCC is fining him the max allowable of $48,000. I think this cause is worthy of a kickstarter fund to bail this poor sap out of trouble.

You can read a copy of the complaint for yourself here.

Almost all cell phone jammers for sale are illegal because they also block calls to 911. I still give the guy some credit for keeping himself safe in a state full of crazies.

If I recall correctly, a small cell signal jammer is legal to own where I live, but not a jammer that would block signals in an entire building or otherwise occupied space.

According to the complaint he was also blocking the 800 Mhz public safety radio band used by Police/Fire/EMS. Yeah, that wouldn't go over well.

Poor sap? I say fine him more. He was creating a dangerous and unsafe situation.

"The FCC says the radios of the deputies who pulled Humphreys over quit working as they got close to his SUV."
