"With new model launches in various global markets, the company's operating profits went up a whopping 238 percent in 2013 over the previous year, reaching a total of 1.36 billion Euros. The growth was led by Europe, where Mazda sales grew 25 percent, largely based on a 35 percent growth in the UK and a 20 percent improvement in Germany.

Who isn't really helping the zoom-zoom party? That'd be North America, where Mazda climbed only five percent in 2013, despite three new (and actually pretty great) models launched here in the last couple of years. The new Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 have all received critical acclaim, but just aren't selling as well as they should be. Coming in just 9,000 units short of the company CEO's 400,000 unit sales goal for North America, perhaps the company is finally getting on the right track to win over America's heart."

Great job guys, now MAZDASPEED ALL THE THINGS!

Glad to hear it. I think Mazda's going to struggle a bit now though with the new Mazda 3. It's a good car but it's too expensive and the ride isn't great. It's also gotten big. One of my friend's relatives didn't even consider the new 3 because she wanted a small car and said the 3 was now too big, so she bought a Fiat 500.

Good job, Mazda. Now I don't want to hear any more damed excuses about why you can't make a 2015 Mazdaspeed Miata. Or a turbo diesel shooting brake Miata, for that matter.

It's nice to hear something positive about the European car market :)

I think the release of the 2 compensates for the growth of the 3 and the 2 can compete with a lower model with a 500 BUT the 2 is just too small for some people (I don't fit in it and am not by any means a large individual.)

This means Mazda has money for R&D. R&D that could go to some sort of halo project, like, say, a two seater, perhaps with an engine that has been linked to the fortunes of Mazda for decades now. It could have a cool code name whereby the first two letters stand for (engine type) eXperiment followed by a dash with a number denoting where it sits in the line up or serially counting up from the original experiment. I for one think I would adore this car.

The 2 is rather small indeed, and the 3 is now larger and more expensive. Not a good place, IMO, when the competition is the Civic, Corolla, Elantra, and very good Focus. The Nissan Sentra is out there as well, but it isn't very good.
