My aunt has recently restarted a shipping company she used to own (health issues came up in the early 2000's but they've since been solved) for flying cargo all around the Caribbean and they have already partnered up with the operator of a Convair 240 and 440. I am excite.

I don't even know how to respond to something like this...other than
Oppo wrap and plane rides for all!

well, you know, why the hell not? Your Oppo duties may increase, like being in the presence of that thing all the time to take pictures

Considering the maintenance costs on old radial engines, this is a bold move. Though it's an understandable one given the state of Caribbean airfields. Where do they plan on finding DC-3 rated pilots?

edit - your lead pic made me think of this, not sure if it's actually the same plane.

Hey, I know that DC-3!
If they are serious I would consider one of the turboprop modded planes. Zero timed airframes, better power and easier on fuel.

We're working with a customer who flies a Convair 340. I think we must require rides for all employees to continue working together.

One of the Convair pilots is already type rated for the DC-3 and my uncle would receive training to get rated as well. He has just over 5,000 hours of flight time including 1,200 in Cessna Caravan and Britten-Norman Islanders.

My uncle mentioned something about looking into planes with the turboprop conversion since he already mentioned how much maintenance goes into their partner's Convairs. The engines on the 240 are being overhauled as we speak.

If you have an opportunity; I'd love to see a write-up about the SMS framework that a DC-3 operation uses.
I swear I don't work for the ICAO.

Beat me to it; I'd do this too, better load capacity / fuel usage / cost. All round win....Otherwise, a Dehavilland Caribou or better yet, a Buffalo or would be an excellent buy if you can find one with the right # of hours left.

Hey, if you are passing them out I once evaluated a loose tail wheel steering joint for repair (maybe even on the DC-3 you pictured). After talking with the mechanic I stood up and gave the next several parts of linkage a wiggle. Every joint in that thing was loose. He said it was normal. I told him probably didn't need to worry about the tail wheel then. I also gave them a fastener sub for a hi-lok (fancy bolt) on the wing spar. Makes me an expert DC-3 engineer.

I'm recommending this post just for calling a hi-lok a 'fancy bolt'
It made me chuckle for no reason at all

You get a recommendation for knowing what a hi-lok is.

Oh good lord the Basler turbos are freaking awesome. They're going to end up giving the DC-3 life beyond a century with those builds.

Someone once told me that if the military used them in numbers during WW2, then they were rugged enough and easily maintained enough to operate anywhere. I'm sure there are a few exceptions to the rule, but one has to remember that the people they had maintaining aircraft in the war were about a year removed from unsnapping their first bra in a hayloft in Nebraska.
