Congrats, what's the theory exam like where you are? In the UK we had a 50 question multiple choice and then a computerised hazard perception test. It was worryingly easy.

IN Canada it's provincial but where I came from it was 30 question multiple choice. I didn't study either.

I managed 48/50 with very minimal study, most was just road signs and when to give way, wish they were a little stricter to be honest.

We have 65 questions, devided in 2 sections.

Hazard perception: 25 questions

Theory questions: 40 questions

I had 5 mistakes in the first section, the max is 12

I had 3 mistakes in the second section, the max is 5.

You can have 12 mistakes in 25 questions? That doesn't seem too hard. Were they multiple choice (how many options?) or open questions?

It has changed a lot since I did all this 13 years ago.

Yes, 12 mistakes in 25 questions. I think it is like that because everyone would react differently in those situations. You get a scenario. You choose to A, brake, B release gas, C, do nothing.

The second part is where most people fail. There are some open questions where you have to fill in a number, (max speed on the highway is 130, things like that.)

All questions were multiple choice (ABC), yes/no, or you had to fill in a number.

I know someone who's failed their theory three or four times—I am utterly, utterly bemused as to how that's even possible. I'm fairly sure that I would have had a fairly decent chance of passing with absolutely no preparation at all; the vast, vast majority of the questions are based on incredibly straightforward common sense.

Common sense isn't as widespread as we like to think it is, some people just don't have any. I knew a girl who didn't pass her theory til the 5th try, this same girl has driven 50 mph in a built up residential area with a 30 limit in a trashed fiat seicento, she has a dangerous common sense deficiency. I also knew someone who crashed her instructors car into a roundabout on her driving test, she has since passed and is driving around, this concerns me...
