Boom. GO! I really like this one. The car is pretty raspy from the outside, but is sounds awesome on the inside! It doesn't have to be YOUR car, but the same model, just to clear things up.

The only exhaust video I have of my car; it's on a dyno. Absolutely not stock: cone intake, 3" turbo-back exhaust with high-flow cat, and Nordic stage 3 tune.

This is mine. My car. My favorite video of my cars exhaust.
What's awesome is it doesn't drone on the highway, its super quiet in the car, and the only time its super loud is when I have the windows open.

not my exact car but cant find any of the old videos, this one is extremely close to my setup and is even the same color! I was pushing .595 inches of lift on a stock LS1 with heads that limited it to a maximum lift of .600 thats right .005 valve to piston clearance. Had some crazy springs so mine was much rattier than this but still very close.

Mine is a 3 inch catless downpipe, through the stock resonator with a muffler delete to a 4inch tip I tihnk it is.

No drone.

No rattle.

I can have a conversation at 70mph turning 3k rpm or so with out an issue.

I love the crackles, I love the flame it farts out, I love the burble. haha

If it is, here's my runner up. And there's a lot of it! The best exterior sound starts around 1:00and goes for about 30 sec. Then you get plenty of in-car racing footage with sound to match.

I'm straight piped from the cat back but once I'm done pissing off the neighbors it'll sound something like that. Capristo exhaust has a great r32 video but it's a little too wordy and technical for an ear porn thread, it's easy to find on YouTube tho.

Kinja'd!!! Someone Else's Projects > YSI-what can brown do for you
04/28/2014 at 21:25

Yeah, it's the JT 3" system with two mufflers. The cat probably does a lot to tame the sound.

I've got an 08 Cobalt SS turbo. I love it. Stock it was pretty mild sounding but gave a nice crack on no lift shifts.

I have gone with a 3" catless downpipe. Now it's completely civilized while driving around but once I get give it some gas it screams. Tons of wastegate noise and pops with a nice flame out the back during a no lift shift. The pop sounds more like a gunshot.

Window open on moderate throttle

Corvettes bring happiness, especially 427 cubic inch varieties. Hey I like your Sonic. I have seriously been thinking about picking up a RS for commuter duty. I put on a lot of miles and it seems like a fun car. How is it on the highway at 80MPH? I test drove one the other day (it was an auto - all they had) and it seemed actually pretty nice. Felt very nimble but stable, not too darty.

you could always do what I should have done and wire up a switch to the resonator valve so you can have the best of both worlds. I wasn't ready to drop a bunch of cash on building a complete system yet so I figured I'd free ball my exhaust straight for a little while. Woah! I wasn't expecting such a long list. Holy Moly! I love that you modified an exotic. I feel like lots of Ford GT owners don't like staying stock for long. Makes me happy on the inside.

How does the supercharger compare to stock? I am assuming it is bigger than before, but why change the supercharger out as compared to getting a bigger pulley or better cooling. If these questions annoy you, you don't have to answer. I am sure you get asked a lot!

I am planning on getting Super Sports for my car as well! I haven't heard anything bad about them. Plan is 245 all around!

Kinja'd!!!0

Mine's an E90, but I'm still stock (sadly). It sounds good, but I would love to hear it more inside the car at lower revs. There's a simple OEM mod that improves the noise quite a bit, but I'm cautious of going overboard or getting drone with any changes. The plan is to do test pipes and a tune first, see how that sounds, and then mod from there to get it how I want it.

Kinja'd!!! CAcoalminer > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com
04/29/2014 at 22:35

Yeah it is quite a footprint. Ofcourse, they're necessary as I'm making around 760 rwhp.

Awesome car. I've always love the E90, as its one of the best looking products BMW has ever made (imho at least). Do you have any mods on it? Also, do you have any pictures you could post?

What you mentioned is the main reason I keep the PSSs on for street driving and have a second set of HREs with Hoosier R6s for the track. The PSSs just allow you to exploit your car's limits so much and yet they can still handle the less than pleasant weather.

04/29/2014 at 22:37

As long as you keep a catalytic converter, a resonator, and a muffler, it should be good. I have a full exhaust, and I can barely hear it while cruising(it is a bit louder while normally accelerating but nothing crazy). Luckily you have 8 cylinders! So bad sound quality isn't a worry for you, just how loud it is!

Good problem to have, for sure - ha! I can't imagine owning a GT, much less two... Such an epic car.

I can't disagree with you; I love my car. I've only done minor mods so far - better pads and fluid for a couple track days, air filter, a new shift knob and pedals. I'm looking forward to doing test pipes (or maybe a full exhaust) and a tune to let her breathe better.

There's a decent shot of my car at the end of this post: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/whatever-it-is…

No no no. You're questions don't annoy me at all. I love talking cars with a fellow enthusiast. Concerning GT owners, I've been quite surprised at how many mod their vehicles. I think it stems from the fact that our cars' transmissions and engines can take up to 1,000 hp before modifications are needed (except clutch) so they don't have to worry about a few power mods. I know tons of guys who do the pulley and tune, as it's so simply and yet effective as you'll get about 750 hp at the crank out of it.

Compared to stock, my supercharger is 1.7 L bigger (4.0 compared to 2.3) than stock and gets me to 760 rwhp compared to 550 hp at the crank when stock. As to why I didn't go with a different pulley (I think you meant to say smaller because a larger pulley would make less power), I didn't go with a smaller pulley because it would have only gotten me to 750 hp at the crank (625-640 rwhp) and well I'm childish and like more power. Concerning upgrading cooling, the stock radiator and intercooler (a Honeywell unit rated up to 1000 hp) are quite good but I have considering getting a new air intake system.

You'll love the PSSs. All around great tire that will let you explore the outer limits of your car's handling but are still confidence inspiring in the rain. What car do you own by the way?

Oh and my tires are 265 fronts and 345 rears in case you're wondering.

Here's a picture of the engine bay (notice the stock airbox):

Thanks. I've definitely been blessed in life.

Beautiful car. Is she your DD, weekend toy, or a combination?

Edit: Just read your article. Great story and wonderful writing style.

I feel the same way. My wife actually encouraged me to buy the car I really wanted, and not to "settle" when I was making my decision a couple years ago. And I just love having a car like this while my kids are young; I feel like I'm making memories every time we're in the car together.

Thanks for the kind words - it's amazing how quickly these machines can change our mood!

That's great. It also helps to have a great gal who supports your interests.

That's for sure. I can have a terrible day at work but once I'm in my car, I immediately calm down and relax.

I did mean smaller(smaller circumfrence means the charger spins more times for each turn of the pulley). I am not sure why I typed larger(I blame stupidity), I think it was because I was trying to explain to my friend how longer gears are actually physically smaller. . . he didn't seem to understand.

Ain't nothing wrong with a bit of extra power! I have heard these V8s in the GT can take up to 1500hp! So 800hp should be a breeze for it! I am amazed at how good all the stock parts are for this car. My cars coolant doesn't like it when you up the power to 250whp!!

I own a Scion FRS. And yes I know it only has 200hp, the 245/40 tires are for autocross!

Get this: I didn't realize it, but she was actually pregnant with our 3rd kid when I drove down to Dallas to buy my car. She intentionally kept the news from me because she thought if I knew we had another one on the way, I probably would have backed out of the purchase. So I not only bought and drove home my dream car that day, I found out I was having another kid once I got back that evening!

I thought so and you're definitely not stupid as evidenced by your writing abilities.

While the GT is a very well engineered vehicle, the guys with 1500hp + all have built motors (usually by Accufab).

That's really cool that you own an FRS. I've heard they are great to drive. Also, I can understand your need for a tire change, as the standard Prius tires seem to only want to drift. Are you upgrading your brakes as well?

Well congratulations. While cars are great, my children and grandchildren are my true pride and joy. I hope all three grow up loving cars just as much as you do.

5 sounds great - hope you get to see a lot of them. My siblings are scattered all over, so it's very infrequent that we all get to be together, but it's fantastic when we are.

Here's all 30 of us, this past fall in California:

Very beautiful family.

I do get to see them quite a bit as they both live in Texas.

Awesome. Surprisingly, I have a residence outside of Fredericksburg, TX and go to CoTA off and on for track days. Stunning track.

Can't wait until I get my chance on that track... Do you ever do track days with The Driver's Edge? I did one at Motorsport Ranch - Cresson with them last year and had an amazing time.
