On my way home, I captured these rather shitty photos (passenger). That little black dot in the middle is actually the biggest (diameter-wise) airplane I've ever seen in person. This thing was enormous.
You can't really tell how big this plane was in the pictures, or see much detail. However, I could, because it was flying low, and did I mention it was big? From what I could see, and a quick search on Google, it appears to be a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, which is this behemoth used by the USAF as a heavy transport plane.

c17s are pretty sweet. They're short runway certified and can go in reverse.
Wait until you see a C-5 in person or at full throttle in the air. They're an awesome plane. I flew C-5s before, including from Germany to Delaware when an engine took a shit and we overnighted in Iceland.

I'll always remember driving home on the freeway, parallel to the landing path to the Calgary airport, and all of a sudden there was an AN-124 coming in to land. At first glance out of the corner of my eye, I thought it was a Cessna landing in the oncoming lane.

There are a bunch of these based at Charleston. I was visiting Myrtle Beach last year and saw a wave of 13(!!!) C-17's flying right over me, directly up the coast. It was amazing, but I was driving at the time so couldn't pull out my camera.
Check out the base on google maps. It's pretty impressive seeing so many of them parked there. I just looked up "Charleston Air Force Base" and that did the trick.

C-17s are sweet. Before one flew me out of Afghanistan I thought they were ugly. They've got a sort of sexiness to 'em now. Freedom Haulers are what they are. And if you're wondering, the troop seats on the sides of the aircraft are comfy! And it's amazing what you can fit in there and how much.
