Is it Audi A6, BMW 5 series , Mercedes-Benz E Class and stuff like that? Or the S class, A8, and 7 series?

So would I. But then is the S60 3 series, C class, and A4?

It's (now distant) platform cousin the Ford Taurus, Five-Hundred and once again the Taurus.

Wow! I knew ford and Volvo did share some things. I never thought something in 2014 would be sharing something with the old 500.

that's why I specified it as distant platform cousin, the platform was shared in the 500 days, but both manufacturers have gone on to evolve it significantly.

The S80 competes with nothing. The S80 is perfection

I love the S60. It looks great! It doesn't drive as nice as RWD luxury, but it looks great.

I think it's more of a rival for the Chrysler 300C. I have nothing against Volvo's but the S80 could be a lot better than it actually is. It's boring to look at and boring inside and boring to drive. It's quite dull and lacking in quality compared to the 5er, E-Class and the A6.

But more to the point, I feel the Volvo competes more-so with the '14 Impala and '14 Taurus. It doesn't quite offer the luxury and prestige of the big Germans and it's bigger than the mid-size offerings from the Germans. Chevy and Ford, however have stepped up their game with their latest large sedan offerings, which I feel puts them on part with Volvo.

Non-turbo [:(] 2.9. It drives like a Volvo.

The only way for me to distinguish an S80 and S60 from the profile was to look at the rear quarter window. The S80 had it separate from the door, the S60 had it incorporated in the door. Now Volvo has changed that, the new S80 is dead to me.
Also, my grandfather had an S80. In the correct Volvo gold metallic type color. The only appropriate color for the S60/S80, since they are the only cars that can get away with gold metallic and stay classy.

Let's make this an experiment!
I'd say the S80 is a car for people with a somewhat more complex personality. That and maybe a little bit of wanting to be unlike the majority of sheeple. It might not be a better car, but it's different ... so the S80 has got that going for it.

It competes more with the 3-Series. The S60 is Volvo's main competitor to the 3-Series. It sacrifices some dynamics for a price advantage so a faster S60 can be bought for the price of a slower 3-Series. The S80 is a bigger and more luxurious S60, although they don't share much. It sacrifices dynamics from the S60 for more luxury, more rear legroom, and a softer ride. That being said, it's less dynamic than a 3-Series/A4, but it is more posh. It's for people who don't care about dynamics and want a more sophisticated car without spending $60k+ for a 5-Series or A6, or for families who want more legroom in back for the kids (the S60 is pretty tight).
