I love how they showed stuff like this in the original advertisements along with "Look how good this handles blah blah blah"

You know what it most likely handled a lot better than anything FoMoCo, GM or The Other One were putting out at the time (it's a '58 Dodge). Despite not offering a sports car, Chrysler owned American performance during the 1950s. The 1958 Chrysler 300D put out 380 HP from the factory (I know that's 1958 horsepower, but that's still a lot more than the average car at the time).

Haha. I would more likely think all of the full size cars of the era handled about the same. This looks like it may be rolling more than average... maybe a worn bushing here or there?
It pretty much came down to HP or Torque numbers depending on what you wanted to do. The early Hemi's rocked it! I almost got my hands on a '58 Chrysler something about a decade ago. Can't remember what it was exactly but it had a teeny carb and it said Hemi all over the place. I want to say it had a 331? It was big and had very bouncy seats, and it was lime green is about all I can remember.

I don't know. They certainly bragged about the performance.
Should have bought it! Those really are gorgeous cars.

I love the use of the term "Road Hugging Weight" in old FoMoCo adverts.

I tried to but couldn't contact the owner in time. It needed a lot of help. I think it went for like $500. I saw a lot of potential in it. I dug about on those this afternoon and now I'm pretty sure it was an Imperial.

Wow, a '58 Imperial. That's one of my favorites.
People harp on about the '59 Cadillac and how crazy the styling was but I really think the Imperials had the wildest styling.
