Yes it needs some work but for the price? Is it worth it to redo it?

Depends on how much the repair would set you back, both monetarily and headache-ly. I can't say for sure because I have zero experience with this engine, but if it's a rare or complicated unit, with difficult to find parts, might be better to steer clear.

Then again, do americans even make rare and uncommon engines? You guys sell those things in crates!

Yes, if I was looking for a project I'd buy it.

No I know several Stang sites to get parts for just about anything so it could be easy.

It's not a simple fix. Either new heads or pull the heads and take them to a machine shop. A burned up valve isn't generally just the result of the dreaded but merely annoying head-tick; it's a car that's likely been beat on very hard, so keep that in mind.

I wouldn't do it, personally. The spread doesn't justify what else may be lurking in a Termi with a burned up valve.

That's a big pro then. If you don't mind sticking with the car for a while, you can learn to do pretty much any work yourself, provided you have parts.

Why not sell the '11 and '08 and buy a Boss or Shelby?

It's less common than an LS1, but they're not particularly rare motors. Parts are everywhere, as is the knowledge to work on them.

Problem here is that while these cars can be a bit finnicky with their heads, a full on valve leak is generally evidence of a car that's been absolutely ragged on, which isn't uncommon with these.

hey its worth a shot

Heres what you do. Buy the car, I'll buy the motor off you cheap, you drop a new motor in, and I'll pull the heads off of my 4v, drop it on this one, and I'll have a forged shortblock with 30k less miles than my car has!

You'll have a new engine!

EVERYBODY WINS!

Well I kinda want to keep the engine and just rebuild it if I could. We are about to have another house soon with a 2 car garage to work on stuffs so.

ford still sells factory reman 03-04 cobra engines

you could have a zero mile engine!

or find an aluminator and dump the iron block!

Ya, so I was thinking just change the all the valves and do a whole new exhaust.

It's possible that he's telling the truth, but he did all of the standard suspension modifications that generally accompany a drastic increase in power with these cars. Thing is, the power-making mods are easily taken off (pullies, intake work, injectors, heck, even bigger superchargers are fairly straightforward); however, the bushings and all of the suspension mods are a little more involved to remove, plus they don't explicitly lead you to believe that the car was ever making more power over stock.

I believe the guy when he says he took care of the car, as he's done the right mods and has the right parts and looks to have maintained it well. But I don't really believe that he didn't turn up the boost/throw on a large supercharger. Not with those suspension mods and how soon that valve burned up.

Oh right, I forgot the 4.6L DOHC aluminator got replaced completely with the new coyote aluminator.

okay, still, factory reman. The only issue is I think they demand the old engine back... I guess that wouldn't work either. Shit!

If you can find a good deal on some used heads that are in good shape and can do the work yourself, it may be worth it. But I'm thinking the valve seats are going to need to be re-machined on the current heads; I'm skeptical of it being a matter of popping in new valves and calling it a day.

It's a deal if that's the case, though.

Its worth it to get, you could have a mechanic do a compression check and make sure this is what he says it is. 4v's and valve issues, usually related to the valve guides, are far from unheard of. Its kind of odd this happened to an 04, I wonder if it for some reason has 4 thread heads and not 9 thread heads.

Ya, I have a mechanic that can do it. Trusted him to rebuild the brakes and do the steering box on the Torino so he can look this over for me if I do jump on it. Or I might get a Mach 1 with some different issues and build it. the Mach 1 is only 4k.
