Is there any way to look up a classic Ford's serial to see who it was ordered by? It was a special order, so there's a SO # as well. The San Jose plant closed over 30 years ago, so I obviously can't ask *them*. Built November '62, IIRC.

Sorry, just noticed the Marti only goes back to '67. This guy bought a bunch of Ford's records before they threw them out. Unless the SO filing is treated differently than VIN stuff, I don't think Ford kept anything.

I think it's 3R27(?)S126214. I have a photo of the data plate on my phone, but it's a bit hard to read. I can make sure later at home - either checking the firewall brace or the title. SO # was 720594 - #594 at San Jose.

Don't worry about it. That's a neat site I think I'd heard mention of, but not seen in person yet. If I end up with a post '67 Ford, I'll definitely make use of it.

What kind of Ford is it? They might actually have something.

You can see the character I'm unsure of - the "3R" I remember clearly from the brace, though the rivet makes it hard to read here. Here's another shot:

The number I gave you has one "2" too many.

'63 Ford Falcon Ranchero. Special ordered in San Jose, built in San Jose. Appears to have an non-standard interior color (tan/lt brown vinyl) that has a color code not in any of the Falcon data plate decoders. Has (apparently) no body color code, and the oldest paint seemingly present is dark green - not a std. color. It was repainted a darker green over the top, but all parts except the passenger door appear to have started out dark green at the factory. It's bone stock base model otherwise except that it has a 4.00 rear diff.

As you can see, at least one dumbass previous owner painted over it. You can't see the body code on the upper left due to reflection - I had to remove paint to see it. (66A - std. Ranchero.) When I removed the paint over "color" - nothing.

Which engine, you mean? 144 standard compression. 3-speed stick. It's not going to stay that way, but that's how it was built.

Sorry, I'm at work so not paying a whole lot of attention to Oppo. I thought you might have a shot at getting an original invoice from them but it doesn't look like your car is among the pre-1967s that they have. Good luck.
