In the world of motorsports, smaller and lighter is better. Some of us, however, just aren't engineered that way.
As a big guy myself, I've always identified with the fuel guys. You don't see many 6'5" 250+lb drivers or tire changers, but big guys have found their niche when it comes to refueling.
Seeing this pit stop during today's Indy car race just made me smile. You're my hero, big guy fuel guy. You don't just carry the fuel hose over the wall, you also carry our hearts.

Little known racing fact #28 - Fuel guys are historically the ones that have the driver's back in the event of an altercation both at the track and at the bars on the night out after a race. To get an edge, british teams used to purposely hire a large, drunk scotsman for a fuel guy for this very reason.

On the NASCAR side the fuel carrier and jack man are both usually bigger dudes, and they are quick!

I first noticed the bigger guys watching Nascar as a kid. You're right it also extends to the jack guys.
My favorite is when the fuel guy has one of those cool shiny aprons on. Future space aprons!

The aprons keep any splashed fuel from absorbing into the fire suit, which would cause the suit to catch fire much easier, which is bad.

Yes that is what aprons are for. :)
