Back in 2004, all I wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo DS. My limit from my parents for gifts has always been $100, so I told them to not get me anything for my birthday (in November) and save it to buy me a Nintendo DS for Christmas. I even had a shoebox that I wrote DS all over that I stuffed all of the change I found into (14 at the time) trying to get as close to a DS as possible. Christmas came around, and my parents bought me a PSP instead. I'm not sure if they got confused or what, but I was happy. The next year I asked for a DS, but they said I already had a gameboy (PSP) so I wasn't allowed. Ten years later after all of this time, I will finally be able to play the new Pokemon games that have come out since 2006. I am 5 generations behind, but by God I will finally be able to play my Pokemon. I bought a DSi for $45 and I couldn't be happier. Now I can play 4 more games (5 if you count Platinum), which should last me another 10 years until I decide to spend money on a 3DS to play X and Y.
I have been waiting so damn long to play Pokemon.
To make this car related, here is my dream car.

that actually sounds like fun. I should go trade in my old Xbox for a ds or something. Pokemon was a good game back in the day.

I can't believe it's been a decade since those things came out.
I got a PSP instead, as well.

I've held off so long hoping that someone would make a decent emulator for the PSP, but so far no luck. I've only gotten one emulator to work with only pokemon platinum japan and it only worked at like 6fps. I'm so excited too.

So, I gotta ask
But why didnt you just buy a 2ds or a used 3ds for the 60 dollar premium give or take and be set for another 2 pokemon games.
Or go for the cheaper, more versatile DS Lite which I am literally tripping over? That'll give you GBA game support as well which helps with transfering some pokemon from the early gens up the rank.

Now I can finally be one of those cool kids who plays Pokemon well into their 20's, too.

are you using emulators on your phone or computer? I've got a GB, and GBA emulator on my android powered POS LG. I've just about every pokemon game, pre. DS on them.

Good for you! My 8-year-old boys still play the DS that I got them for Christmas a few years back. Not a lot, but they like to play them in the car on trips around town. They're playing those Pokemon games right now, and for old, used games, they aren't cheap! Have fun.

Price point, mainly. I'm a cheap bastard with no job and this was an impulse buy. I could justify $45 but not $100. The DS Lites I found of similar price were in equal or worse condition, so I just went with the newer DSi. My Gameboy Advance still works, and I mostly emulate GBA games on my PSP, so I can always use that for GBA stuff if needed. Plus I like to start each Pokemon game fresh. I couldn't count how many times I've replayed Fire Red.

Sorry if I worded my response weird; I emulate GBA games on my PSP at full 60 fps all the time. I've been playing Fire Red over and over for years (along with ever iteration before that). DS is what I can't get over 6 fps on my PSP. I could play DS ROMS on my computer, but i never liked handheld games on a computer like that. I figured the $45 leap was worth it, even if I do have to pay for the actual games rather than just downloading new ROMS.

OH okay. I had no idea that you could even run an emulator on PSP. Also Fire Red/Leaf Green freaking rock. Almost all the nostalgia of the original gen games, but way better actual game play. No more awkward crosseye'd sprites lol.
