Kinja'd!!!

On Thursday I was on my way to work, pulling out of the bank parking lot when an absolutely stunning BMW flew by me. I shot out of the lot and followed the guy for a second so I could get a closer look. Luckily he pulled into a parking lot close by so, naturally, I pulled in there too. He parked his car and I rolled up next to him and asked him what exactly he was driving.

His car was a wonderfully restored 1973 BMW 3.0CS. It was a dark red, almost burgundy color, like the one picture above. I've never seen one of these in person so I was really excited. I adore old BMWs. The guy hopped out of the car, I asked him if he would mind if I took a couple picture of his car, and he said no. Couldn't believe it. I was annoyed, but respected his decision and continued on my way.

Earlier that week I had also seen a gorgeous 1971 BMW 2002 as I was leaving work.

Kinja'd!!!

I was getting into my car as the owner of said BMW was just exiting his. I asked what year it was, complimented his car and asked if I could talk to him for a minute about it and take a picture or two. He declined any conversation because he claimed to be "too busy." You want to know where he was going? To get a smoothie...where I work. Ya, I work at a smoothie place, I'm a baller.

He walked into the smoothie place where I work, and I followed. I got behind the counter, took his order, and tried to ask him questions about his car. He actively tried to avoid conversation about his car for some strange reason, so I gave up.

What the hell is it with car people where I live? STOP BEING DICKS, PEOPLE.

Rant over.

DO YOU WORK AT SMOOTHIE KING?

Also, car people here really can be dicks. I asked to take a picture of a C6 Z06 in a Schnucks parking lot and the guy threw a fit for me even asking.

Assholes reside everywhere. The other day, I went to my chiropractors office. There was a stunning '78 450 SL in the parking lot. I walked over and did a walk around and was amazed. I went into the office and signed in and asked the woman behind the desk about who owned that beautiful Merc. Her response was "It's mine, don't touch it" I said that I have been a car guy all my life and I know not to touch anyone's car unless they give you permission. She said, snippingly, that there was a hair trigger alarm on it and if I touched it, she would know.

I mentioned the conversation to the doctor and he said that she was his wife. I am shopping for a new chiro this week.

That's insane! What the hell is with people? If you drive a unique car, you have to expect people to be interested and want to chat about it.

When I had my Baja Bug and drove it around, people would stop me to talk and I was always glad to talk about it. I could never own a cool car that I don't want to talk about.

I know. Most people want to tell you about their cars. I guess some are weird and paranoid or something. What is the fun of owning a unique car if you are not willing to talk to curious people about it or are afraid everyone has spray paint and sand paper and is just looking to destroy your car. Jeez.

You don't need to ask permission to take a photo of a car in a public area.

They are probably just annoyed with so many people wanting to talk about their car all the time. I try to be polite and talk to people when I drive my truck and they want to talk. I know better than to drive it if I'm in a hurry. The other day I was towing it across country behind a Uhaul and stopped to get gas. This couple came up, started talking, and wouldn't leave. I was blocking 2 pumps at a busy station so I eventually had to tell them I had to go. I usually don't mind, but I do get annoyed with the people that try to convince you to make changes to your ride. "Man I would slam that thing on the ground" or "You should put some flames on it". I just want to tell them to go back to watching "Counts Kustoms"

I know I don't have to, but it's more of a respect thing for the owner.

This is why I make extra time whenever I drive Ilaria (My Fiat). She always catches attention, and I love talking to people about her.

I would go out and spit a nice hawker on the hood when I left the parking lot.
