They've been watched exactly zero times. For those of you who don't know, Toradora is an obscenely expensive show to buy, for 25 episodes it's about $80 on DVD. However luckly for me my friend with WAY too much money to throw at anime decided to sell his DVDs to me for only $15 since he's buying buying the Blu-Rays that just came out! The best thing? The show was made in 460p digitally, that means his Blu-Rays will look almost exactly the same as the DVDs! :)

I'm not familiar with anime, so that's probably why I'm unaware, but why so expensive? Just curious...

Anime is a very niche market and you have different publishers that try to turn a profit in one of two different ways. "Sell cheap and sell a lot = profit" and "Sell expensive and sell a few = profit". They tend to sell popular stuff though the first method but the more cult classic shows they tend to sell using the second method. I mean anime prices in general are insane. I mean the most expensive series in my collection is probably Clannad (MSRPs for about $200 I got mine for about $100), Evangelion (MSRPs for about $200 for the box set and $80 for End of Evangelion, Used. I got my boxset for $40 before the price sky rocketed and my brother gifted me his End of Evangelion Movie), or Penguindrum (The complete set is about $200 msrp, I paid $120).
TL;DR Anime is like drugs. It starts out cheap but pretty soon it becomes an obscenely expensive habit to maintain.

Now if someone walks up to you on the street and asks "Hey why is anime so expensive?" You can roundhouse kick them in the face with knowledge!

I agree with you wholly. I am a massive Gundam (U.C.) fan. I try to buy the dvds when I have extra cash and/or if I can find them. 08th MS Team, three volumes, about 20$ each, its adds up. Z Gundam was either $30 or $40 for a single volume (out of two). But half the series aren't on dvd, so its hard to come been. You could say I've been forced to torrent it, just to re-enjoy the series when I want to. I want to support the industry, but it's hard if they think there isn't any profit to be made in it. :(

I bought a few anime a couple years ago. I realized I dont' watch things twice and have stuck to just streaming since then. How many do you actually sit down and watch again?
