They are dumb because they don't have road feel and that's most important thing on Earth and the Nurgurbring and Germans and soul and (fart noises)

The ES is just a stooopid fancy Carmy with not soul. I can easily get a 2004 BMW M3 for that money. Did you know the BMW M3 was designed for the Nurburgring, Well, that is race track in Germany that German Engineers engineer German cars that are all built with a soul and they highest quality and pride craftsmanship. Built for the track and ultra luxurious using only the finest German Engineering from Germany were the German Autobahn exists...in Germany. Lexus has to soul and it looks like Predator. Did I mention Lexus has no soul and doesn't have road feel? That's so stupid and only stupid people buy Lexus and stupid Toyota. They don't know they could buy an RS4 with Quattro for that money. Quattro come from rally racing and has a history of pride and German Engineering. It could be snowing like crazy and with the German engineered Quattro, you can take any corner at 100mph because German Engineering is from Germany. Did I mention Lexus has no soul and are just stupid Toyotas?

LOL !!!. Again, i'm no car enthusiast. But to me, the real enemy is the anti-car people all together. I like all cars. I honestly believe there is something cool about every car. From a goofy looking DONK to a Prius, to an Agera R. If an eco box doesn't handle like a SLS AMG, so what. We are not on a race track. If you are, you have something that can perform well and it's just not fair to compare. We all have a loved one that drives and eco box. Are you going to tell them it's shit and they are stupid for not buying a used CL 600 for that sort of money? Also, When it comes to class competitors, they all have something to offer a customer. No one car in its class is better than the other. Working in dealerships for a long while gives one a unique perspective. To me every car has shitty quality and every car is great. A driver will do idiotic things in a DBS as many times as a Corolla driver. Duh there are more Corollas in the world to easily gain a stereotype. Automotive propaganda is a sin in my eyes. We should learn to like every car :] Besides, that's our motto right? Drive Free or die :] From Carmy, to a candy drippin wood grain grippin SLAB, to a carbon chassis V12... long live all motoring!

Ok, I'm with you to a point. I do see the value in most cars (like, a vast majority, including Lexus and Infiniti). That said, both companies (or, rather, both branches of their parent companies) haven't been doing much in the way of cool with either of them. Aside from the LFA (which is sort of a strange car to have under the Lexus badge...why not Scion? Why not Toyota?), the last even slightly interesting Lexus that comes to my mind is the LS300...Infiniti's last (and arguably only) interesting car was the G35.

Granted, the guy that I assume you quoted in italics was WAY too aggressive IMO, and has a bad case of the fanboyism. Audi and BMW...well, I'm not a big fan of theirs either (although both have some neat offerings).

Dunno. At the end of the day, fanboyism sucks (unless it's Nissan, then it's GREAT!). There are arguments that can be made against Lexus, but then, there are arguments to be made against just about every branch of every auto manufacturer ever.

All you can hope is that they'll learn from their mistakes (Freaking Nissan...)

And I guess I was also a bit unclear with what I wrote, it's not a horrible car, and it's got good traits (which I believe I pointed out), it's just not the car for me, but it is for someone else, and that's ok.

We're still cool though, I can't stay mad at the Cookie Monster :]

The problem I have with every Lexus I've ever experienced is that they are completely and utterly devoid of character. Like the Toyotas they are based on, their existence is vanilla.

And now...they're hideous AND devoid of character.

Except for the LF-A, though. It's my lottery car. I want to lick it.

German cars might be more expensive to maintain...I will agree to that in my 10 years and 200,000+ miles accrued on my Audi and VW. But they have never let me down, and are always great fun.

Yeah what pisses me off about Lexus isn't that they can't make great cars. They can make AMAZING cars when they want to. What sucks is that they don't. They tease us with the limited production LF-A. Then they make the IS-F to make us drool, but only offer it with a slushbox.

Lexus could make better cars than ze Germans. They just don't feel like it. And that's annoying.

The first true luxury car that my family ever had was a 1991 Lexus LS400 that my old man bought used. It was one of the nicest and most reliable cars that he or I have ever owned. He drove it forever then gave it to my Mom. She drove it forever then sold it to my buddy. It was fun to drive and refused to die. But Lexus rested on their laurels after that. They stopped innovating and got behind the Germans again. By the late 90s the German luxury sedans had become somewhat of a joke and everyone knew that Lexus was the better choice. But the German brands fought back with a vengeance and Lexus iterated mildly and catered to the buyers that want quietness more than driving feel. They eventually lost a lot of their fans and only kept those who value reliability over all else.

I really want Lexus to mount a comeback. Competition is good for everyone. They need to make an LF-A successor that's cheaper and widely available. They need to at least DCT the IS-F if no stick will be offered. The GS and LS need to be more exciting. Actually I don't care what they do as long as they make an LF-A successor that is priced right. Please, please do that Lexus.

That is pretty awesome. Don't get me wrong - I like Lexus and want them to make a comeback.

I'm just talking about general trends. Lexus has lost most enthusiasts and most people that buy cars to make a statement. A new LS doesn't have the same cachet as a new S Class. I think Lexus can destroy the S Class if they feel like doing so. They just have to really want to like they did in the late 80s!

I certainly agree that a new S-class has more shiny lights and fun toys than an LS. But as a luxury car, the LS can do just as good as, if not better than the S-class in areas like refinement, engine smoothness, a quiet interior, materials quality, and luxury features. Add to that unquestionable reliability and a 20 grand cheaper price, the rationality goes against the S-class.

However, I do agree that I'd like to see Lexus return to being the leader of the segment, and build a car that exceeds the S-class in every aspect. I'm looking forward to the next generation of Lexus LS to do that, as new generations of that car typically introduce industry-first technologies.

Although I'd be quite happy if they just build this:

after 13 years of turning wrenches, this "character" doesn't exist in my eyes. They are cars to me, nuts, bolts, parts, and fluids. I own one of each of the big 3 germs... nope, no character to be ever found. Headaches yes, but character never, it's a machine.

wrenching cars hasn't a damn thing to do with character. It's how all those individual nuts and bolts are put together. It's all about how it drives.

Go tell BTU that his Fiesta ST doesn't have character. Or YSI's FRS. Or any of the guys around here who bought Fiat Abarths. Or M3's. Tell Orlove his Dune Buggy doesn't have character.

Clearly, if you're not getting this concept though, you are as you said, not an enthusiast. Perfect for Lexus.

I'm an ex Lexus Master tech, try explaining that to many of my once customers. They take their RWD cars seriously.

I personally don't see it. But many Lexus owners do.

Even when i autox'd my 95 3 liter heater M3

Completely Agree! There isn't much that differentiates Lexus from the whole world of beige, well besides the predator face. Which isn't good.

The Lfa on the other hand, That's different. But then again such a small portion of the Lexus demographic has the money/interest to buy it.

The Is300 was really the only exception I found. An attractive, sporty and fun car. But now, they are over styled and boring. It's like a whole line devoted to being made up of the Camry.

I agree with you. The LS is the better deal and the safer buy. If I was going to buy a huge luxury car I'd feel safe with the Lexus.

But I'm not the typical buyer. The typical buyer now leases the car and turns it in for the shiny new model. And the S Class draws these people in. The crazy thing is that some people are so rich now that higher cost and more sizzle is what they want. Rich people just walk into the dealer and throw their money down!
