So I have a question. Most of us are in Accord (not Honda) that Acura has really made some bad design decisions. Recently, Lexus followed suit by designing cars that all look like various forms of Eric Cartman taking a shit.

Kinja'd!!!

I ask you this, which brand is, well, more bad?

I bet a ton of people are going to disregard your choices and go right to Lincoln.

Aren't the wheels still as numb as any other Toyota? I'd take the accurate steering of the Acura/ Honda kind.

Lol. Lincoln is pretty bad. But I actually remotely considered an MKZ for about all of 5 hours... That's more than I can say for Lexus or Acura.

They (IMO) made one, the LFA. I like the NSX better personally, especially when you consider value and sustainability. The LFA was a loss leader, the NSX was profitable. The LFA cost more than a Gallardo but was slower. The NSX was flogging Ferraris and cost less at the time.

The day that the Nsx returns. I will regain some of my respect for Acura.

They've just got to cut the shit about being superior to Audi, Bmw, and Mercedes. They aren't.

I'd say lincoln as stated in another comment.

To pick between the 2, I'd say lexus. I hate toyota and their cars are terrible to drive (i have a lot of experience with this). Modern lexus seems to be barely better toyotas save a few actually decent cars.

I feel that Lexus still has the better looking theme of the two brands. But if I'm picking a Japanese luxury vehicle on looks - it's pretty easily Infiniti. The Q50 looks better than anything that Lexus or Acura offer across their entire lineup.

I don't know. A good friend of mine has last year's IS F and its actually a really fun car. I would rather be driving something German as far as luxury sport sedans go, but it shifts well with the paddles, and doesn't mind kicking its tail out a little bit to remind you that your luxury sedan had an F at the end of its name. The steering wheel is also very similar to the LFA wheel, which is awesome. Meanwhile, Acura aint got shit (minus the NSX, but I don't even believe Acura when they talk about it anymore).

It comes down to the fact that I wouldn't chose to own buy either, but I'd much rather borrow a Lexus. Plus the recent models look more like actual luxury cars than just gussied up versions of their parent company's beige sedans, in my personal opinion.

See, the thing is, Lexus actually makes good cars. No not the RX or the ES, but you get my point. Acura just makes....bleh. Not great looking bleh.

Lexus doesn't have the LFA anymore either, technically.

And, at least Acura still consistently offers a manual. Paddle shifters? No thanks for me.

I meant more in the "things I could actually afford a used model of" department. The IS F was a great, fun car for the week that I borrowed it, and I honestly don't think Acura has made anything in recent years that is as fun or looks as good as the IS or that looks like a proper luxury sedan like the LS (also available with an F tacked on). The closest thing you can get from Acura is a RLX, which just looks like you spent $50k on a Honda with some wooden bits and extra leather. As for the transmission, yeah, I would definitely prefer a manual but I'm not going to buy any of these cars so I don't really care about that so much. Ahaha. But I have to say if, in the future, I was going to buy a primary car that I might have to share with my wife (who lets say can't drive manual) and I had to chose between these brands, I would a) prefer a Lexus and b) prefer paddles over a regular automatic. At least you can have a little bit of fun. When you're not driving your fun car.

And, yes, Lexus doesn't have the LFA but they haven't leading us on with hints about a new one since 2007. Seriously, Acura. Just produce the damn thing. I'm not even excited about it anymore.

Acura took forever with the original NSX too, much of that because the F1 drivers they were using for testing kept asking to stiffen it up.

As for good to drive, really the TL is my choice, 305HP SH-AWD with manual. Perfect to me.

As for Lexus, I want to like them, but I consistently hear about the floaty wheel they took from the Toyota and that just doesn't work for me. I'd prefer Acura (TSX with 6 speed performance pack, or the TL mentioned earlier) or a BMW if RWD only was a must.

I know but this is driving me crazy. I was so excited about the new NSX, like, two years ago. Now I'm just waiting over here with my face in one hand while drumming my fingers against the table with the other, hoping that it will live up to the expectations, which would be a feat in of itself.

I've never driven a TL, but I hear they're fun. I just don't think that a TL can make up for the fact that it has 111hp less than a IS F and that (in my opinion) it looks a bit... blah, even with a proper transmission. 416hp in a sport sedan with paddles is a crap load of fun and in sport mode, which I didn't take the car out of once, the steering was actually pretty good. It wasn't the most engaging and awe inspiring steering of any car I've ever driven, but of course it isn't... It's a Lexus, after all.

The funny thing to me is:

Although as a brand as a whole I much prefer Honda/Acura... I am not excited about the NSX anymore. The engine is in the wrong place, Honda hasn't had a slam dunk since the S2000 came out. The Si is great but should be better, the regular Civic is good, but eh... Most the Acura's fit a good niche, but something is lacking. Especially from the brand that brought us so many great cars 20 years ago.

I couldn't agree more. I really hope the NSX exceeds everyone's expectations, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't. I would also love to see Acura succeed. Something like a new Integra would be amazing, if you ask me, and probably something Acura really needs at this point. They need a reboot like Cadillac is working on right now to change the less-than-ideal image they've earned recently.

Agreed, the question though is do they want to go back to good sales and die hard fans or try and sell more cars. With the weak yen probably more sales, but with ever tougher competition they probably should worry about making new loyal fanatics.

That's everyone's question, and most companies choose more sales. Its a shame for us but good for them, I guess.

I would argue in the short run. Ford, Chevy and Dodge all figured out it was unsustainable though. Price wars, sell the most with the smallest margins was not a good approach. Hopefully Honda sees this before its too late. I think it is the same thing Toyota is figuring out right now.

I think Honda does see it though, looking at how fast they redesigned the 2012 Civic and their new HFP badging.
