My wife and I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and bought her a "new-ish" 2011 Ford Expedition Limited yesterday. It's loaded with Nav, heated/cooled seats, DVD players, second row captain's chairs, automatic running boards, SiriusXM Radio/Weather app, Sync, etc. Not bad so far, but we've only had it for 24 hours.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It's no !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but it'll do.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Finally, a road trip ride that I won't be ashamed to put my bass boat behind.

Do the two middle captain chairs feel comfty? They look like they were built for stow-and-go, which are typically uncomfortable. They used to be pretty bad, anyway. I think I heard somewhere that Dodge had perfected it.

Actually, they are pretty comfortable. Plenty of leg room in the second AND third row, too.

My DD is an F-150, but sorry. Just had back surgery and I can't lift anything until about a month after your moving date. :)

It looks like the roof comes down in the second row, I'm guessing to house the vents. Is it intrusive on headroom by a lot?

It's for the ice cold rear AC. The ceiling goes back up before it becomes a problem for second row passengers.

I'm looking for a place to live, can I rent out the back of this?

If it were mine, I'd say yes. But my wife might get freaked out if there was someone living in the back of her car. She's paranoid like that.

Well that's good. Rear AC is a lovely thing that all cars should have. I only ask because my uncle's Ram has the same drop and it interferes with headroom in the back.

Needs a light bar or something similar on the top to scare people into thinking it is a cop vehicle. Totally unrelated: Do you folks have basements there?

Yeah, it's not a problem at all. I sat in the back, and all 6'1" of me was comfortable.

Wait, I thought it was the law that people in Texas had to own a Suburban? Did you find a loophole or something? Anyway, I'd get a Expedition instead of a 'Burban anyway, just for the better rear seat room and those awesome hide away running boards.

Hmmm... Might be fun.

No basements at all. The water table is too close to the surface for that. Plus, it would flood every time we got a drizzle, let alone a good downpour.

My wife, much to my chagrin, test drove a 2009 Suburban 4x4. She actually had her heart set on it. After the cruise around the block, she realized I was right when I said it would be too much truck for her.

The Expedition is better appointed and rides better than the Suburban we looked at. It's a bit larger than what she traded in (Buick Enclave), but it's smaller than my truck. She likes it.

Interesting. We have few basements here. It stems from the days when people built houses close to the flood plain of the Rio Grande and they would flood in the Spring. Now, the only homes with basements are on the west side of the river and higher up and the sandy soil goes down several feet or more.

I saw you had some "congestion" in the ship channel a short while back, Is that all cleared up?

It ain't bad. I've already told my wife that I'll be in the back seat watching movies during our frequent jaunts to Austin. In reality, I'll be the one driving, but I'd LIKE to be in the back seat.

The ship channel is more or less cleared up, but there are still some areas of the bay and coast that are being cleaned. Can't fish in Galveston Bay right now, but you can off the piers on the island.

Great Buy! We here have an 07 Expedition EL Eddie Bauer. Haha, in Mexico they call it the Expedition MAX. Greatest features: 3rd row seats are fantastic, and Flooring it sounds magnificent.

We thought about the EL/Max, but it's more truck than we need at the present time. The Eddie Bauers are nice (I was pissed that we couldn't find any local King Ranch Expeditions with second row captain's chairs for a decent price).

nice choice! My wife and I looked at a few of these, albeit older (04-08s or so) before getting our BMW instead. We loved the cooled seats and storage space, but my wife couldn't let go of the steering wheel of the BMW.

Now, a few years and a newborn later, ask her which she should've chosen instead - but wait until she puts the stroller, diaper bag, groceries, and god knows what else in first in her human Tetris game.

hahah here we have used it for SO many trips, we are 5 in the family with once bringing another family of 3 to a 400 Mile trip. No seat was left empty. My mother also was astounded by those seats, as well as the automatic liftgate, we have come from owning 5 suburbans and in 2007 with the redesign it was almost a no brainer we'd go chevy again. Then, I read an ad in the back of the magazine of the expedition MAX when I was 10 and told my mom we should go check it out. Amazingly, she took my car advice (From a 10 Year old!) and we ended up buying one. Hadn't had a better truck yet.

The Suburban (and Tahoe/Yukon) 3rd row seats are a pain to get out. And since they don't fold down flush, we MUST take them out when we're traveling to have enough space for luggage (wife + three daughters = A LOT of luggage). I'm pretty pumped for the first road trip.

I Know! a neighbour bought a Tahoe around the same year and we carpooled with them, and that rear seat was Horrid. It was so badly designed as two big fat seats. Check out this commercial it perfectly sums up our conversation.

Good choice, I've been looking at them to replace our Suburban at some point. I prefer the 2nd row captains chairs so you can get into the 3rd row easier.

Rented one of these while out in Aspen in December/January. The inside is SO BIG!!! Seriously, we were able to carry four sets of skis and a Costco run of epic proportions consisting solely of beer and beef jerky (manly men).

I miss winter already.

Honestly, we haven't tried yet. I'll have to move a couple of boxes from the back of the garage, but I can't lift them due to back surgery.

I doubt it, but...
