I was happy to get to drive my truck to work this morning. Work is only three miles of city/town streets, so driving is kind of dumb unless there are kid/cargo/errand considerations. Usually, I just ride my bike and save the gas and money for more fun, useful miles. I was even in an extra good mood because there's a chance I can take Friday off to finish fixing the exhaust header gasket on my Z. Unfortunately, just after I start the truck, I hear the exhaust note change. There's a leak. It sounds like it's somewhere in front of the O2 sensor, but after the turbo. I haven't popped the hood yet to check, but I'm betting it's the flex couple on the downpipe. I like working on the truck, but the last 3 jobs have all been on that while my Datsun has been waiting since last July. I thought maybe, for once, I could have all three cars back in order again. Of course, complaining won't change it, so I'll just line up the repairs and get through what I can as best I can.
Caught a break, sort of. I got a few minutes to find the leak, and it turns out one bolt holding the down pipe to the turbo loosened up and dropped out. Even better, it's one right on top and easiest to get to. If I can remove another bolt over lunch, get to the hardware store and match it, I might have the whole thing solved. I'm hoping I caught it quickly enough that the gasket is still in good shape, but we'll see.
