You may have noticed some of our other sites have been doing "deals" posts !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! They're put together by our "commerce team" and are essentially guides to shit you might like to buy that are customized to each site's audience. If we do one, what would you like to see?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I've invited Shane Roberts, of the commerce team, to come in here and listen/answer questions in the name of transparency and so that we don't end up with a guide that's all stick-on-sunroofs and PepBoys schlock.
Let us know in the comments below what you'd like to see in such a post, and it doesn't necessarily have to be directly car-related.
And, as you probably know, the stuff being recommended hasn't been paid for by a sponsor, but Gawker does make money via referral from Amazon or other places.

Tuning options would be cool, offer discounts through some tuning shops for parts or service.
Radar detectors would probably go really well over here.
Blipshift obviously.

Tires, radar detectors, bluetooth obd2 readers, etc. I'd probably focus on technology goodies for cars, and avoid accessories or other less useful things.

Parts and tools, mostly. Since parts can be pretty car, or era, specific maybe stick with tools and accessories?

Basically, actually car upgrades. Everything from Trucks, Classic Cars, Tuners, and even electronic flash upgrades.

Tools. Shop tools, hand tools, torque wrenches, etc etc etc
Fluids! Don't care where they come from, everyone could use a deal or two on engine fluids, lubricants and filters
Games. - mobile, console, desktop. Just 'cause we're all gearheads doesn't mean we don't enjoy a good vidya gaem from time to time. Sales on racing titles are always welcome! Racing rigs too
I'm not sure what else would be a good fit, given the proprietary nature of vehicles. Most "universal fit" parts are widely panned here
OH, how about Bluetooth-enabled OBDII readers and their corresponding apps? I dunno if that falls in the tools category

Audio, tools, manufacture rebates, also maybe some reviews of car stuff could be complied by users of the site for a "Jalop review" section, kind of like Lifehacker's Hive Five.

a little more narrow but I bet you guys would have some success selling short shifter kits with a majority of Jalops driving MT's. Imagine buying one of these but instead of an ///M badge it was rocking a Jalopnik/Oppo sign. That would be pretty cool and be functional too.

Deals on things like Skip Barber or Dirtfish would be good as the appeal is universal around here. You might be able to do more collaborations with them as well, similar to the way Gawker sites benefit from Amazon links (IIRC).
It'll be difficult to gather deals on upgrades to specific cars; the Miata might be the only on universal enough around here to mention regularly.
Maybe only list upgrade deals when there are deals site-wide or brand wide at a certain retailer or manufacturer (eg. Pelican Parts for classic Porsche & BMW stuff or Turner Motorsport, also for BMW).

Thanks for the suggestions. We've been expanding our tool coverage on Lifehacker (and now Deadspin), and we'll definitely growing that even more on Jalopnik. And games for sure, we'll bring over the best of Kotaku's game deals, and io9's Book and Blu-ray deals, curated for Jalopnik readers of course.
Was just chatting with Matt about OBDII readers that we featured on Lifehacker the other day.

Cars are kind of tough for this sort of thing since parts aren't generally universal and it'll just turn into phone mounts, car chargers, and cleaning supplies. Stuff like HPDEs tend to be region specific so I'm not sure that'd work well either.
If you're actually going to do it I'd suggest each time picking a specific vehicle and finding specific upgrades or parts deals for it as well as having a little write up of the car so it doesn't seem as advertisy.

Nothing too comprehensive, but it'd be cool if you'd shout out a random track days or autocross every time. Obviously you'd have to choose a different city each time, but it could be a nice little reminder for people to get out and drive their cars.

I know these are big targets, but what about lease specials, finance incentives, from major manufacturers? I'm sure folks would want to know about 0% financing on a WRX or $1000 cash back on manual, diesel wagons. This could be a great way for auto makers that want to reach enthusiasts to come aboard. And since it is an ad department thing and not directly related to Jalopnik we don't have to worry about it influencing reviews. Or maybe there would be a way for dealerships to locally advertise based on geographic IP addresses...ok that one is complicated but just a thought.

As with all advertising, its not nearly so annoying if it's well-targeted and has stuff you actually want to buy. Less is definitely more, from that point of view.
Books would be good, since you're looking for Amazon referrals. Anything Setright, for a start.

Hmmm, dashcams and GoPros are good ideas. How about dataloggers like Traqmate. Might be a bit niche, but I'd buy one :)
Other ideas would be tyres, or brakes like Wilwoods. Perhaps perfromance pads like greenstuff.
Ooh, or trackdays :)

I can't believe that no one has brought this up yet: Deals on washes, waxes, clay kits, wash mitts, towels, good wash buckets and so on. You know, stuff to detail your car with. None of this stuff is cheap if you go with an accessible and reputable brand like Meguiar's or Mother's. In fact, I just dropped over $70 bucks the last two days on some of the very basic stuff (to be fair, some of the stuff I had had to be replaced) I needed.

Love the driving school ideas. That's some bucket list type stuff right there. MY bucket list.
Love the parts overnight from .de suggestions for personal reasons, too, but hey, this 944 ain't gonna fix itself. Haha. I think cycling in specific parts vendors sometimes would work as long as we don't get too hung up on one marque (...not everyone has a Miata).
