I filled out the order sheet and placed the deposit on a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It was kind of a birthday present to myself... one that I would have to wait four months to get.

Kinja'd!!!

I've loved it since day one.

Just a stunningly beautiful car...

Would you have done anything different, looking back? Any issues so far?

AKA my next purchase, within ~2 months if all goes well.

I've waited long enough for one.

Overall, I don't think I would have changed anything about the order. I'm still madly in love with Sprint Blue and the two-tone seats with Alcantara. The more I see the potato peeler wheels on other S4s and S5s, the more I'm glad that I didn't go with them.

Even though it is the first car that I've owned with a manual transmission, and spent the four months between placing the order and getting it learning to drive stick, I still think going stick was the way to go. I've driven an S5 V8 with Tiptronic and it's just a bit meh. If Audi would have equipped the V8 with the dual-clutch S Tronic transmission, I may have swayed that way.

I'm still working on saving up for an exhaust, a few minor dings to take care of and curb rash on the wheels that need to "buff" out.

I miss my Audi and I want a V8. The Golf R is fun, but I'm kinda over 4 cylinder turbos by this point. An Audi V8 will be happening. Though the question is which one to get. The S5 is sexy but I find myself preferring the B8.5 refresh, and I'm in love with the RS5 even though it has flappy paddles. Used values on RS5's are surprisingly low already, so they could be a good CPO value next year.

I have to say that I also love the combination of the supercharged V6 and S Tronic in the B8 S4 and B8.5 S5 coupe... absolutely addicting. I thought that I wouldn't quite like driving the RS 5 with the S Tronic gearbox, but man... it is pretty darn close to Porsche's PDK in the 911 and Cayman S.

If I decide to go with another S5 or move up to the RS 5, I'm going to wait for the B9 generation to come out.

As far as flappy paddles go, I've driven a 997.2 Carrera PDK, Panamera, S-tronic B8 S4, and an M3 DCT. I still prefer manuals, but those gearboxes are VERY impressive.

I'm not as interested in the next generation RS4/5, they will be switching to a twin turbo V6. Though if the RS4 Avant actually came here, that would change my tune..

The way that I see it, switching to a twin-turbo V6 makes it a bit closer to the days when the RS 4 was a twin-turbo 2.7-litre V6. Yes, I will miss the fast and high-revving nature of the quattro GmbH massaged 4.2 V8; but, I think there will at least keep some of the fun nature that is an RS engine in a twin-turbo V6. I mean, they've done it before ;)

I'm just kind of over turbo lag now, and nothing to me sounds as good as the RS4's I test drove a couple of times.

To be fair, there was only one 2.7 liter biturbo RS, it was only built for a couple of years and we didn't even get that over here. NOW, if Audi put a longitudinally mounted 2.5 TFSI in an A4/A5 chassis...that would get my attention.

I've been loving my German V8 + manual transmission for almost two years now.

And also have the rock chips, a little curb rash, and can't wait until I can afford an exhaust!

Thanks and I agree, there aren't enough Sprint Blue S5s in this area either. I only know of the one that lead me to go with Sprint Blue and mine.

Turbo lag on a four-cylinder versus a V6 or V8 isn't quite comparable, but I understand that it is annoying to have that lag. It also doesn't help that sometimes the e-throttle isn't respond as quickly as it should when you want it to.

I absolutely love that color. Before I bought my BMW I was looking at a Sprint blue S5 that was incorrectly advertised as a manual. That plus the fact that the Ford dealership that had it was asking $2,500 above value and wouldn't negotiate negotiate caused me to head to the Mercedes benz dealer next door, where I found my E90! I still wonder about that S5.....

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah... and to think, I was going to go with Meteor Gray until I saw Sprint Blue in person on the S5. I think if I had opted for the B8 S4, I would have gone Sprint Blue immediately.

At least with white, you can always get a wrap job and it wouldn't be quite as noticeable as a wrap job on something like Sprint Blue or Imola Yellow ;)

The relative scarcity of used, much less new, S5s in the area made the decision to go new so much easier. Not just for cost, but finding the unicorn that is the Sprint Blue S5 with two-tone seats.

Yeah, I could try new things easier probably :)

If I had an S4, It would be Imola or Sprint. That's it. No others.

Imola Yellow is just so iconic on the S4, particularly the pants-wettingly beautiful B5 and B6 S4 Avants. I still have a crisis when I see an Imola B6 roll around town.

If I could go back in time, I'd probably strongly consider ordering a new B8.5 S4, but I don't know if those came in sprint blue. IMHO, the facelifted B8.5 is so much better looking than the F30 3 series. - BMW fanboy

Sprint Blue is no longer a standard, non-exclusive option (it disappeared from the order guide starting with the 2012 MY S5, possibly the same for the S4). That said, the 2015 MY S4 and S5 will get Sepang Blue as a non-exclusive paint option.

Even though I'm an Audi kind of guy, I personally feel like the E46 is where the 3 Series peaked in terms of design. The E90 line looks good, but seems to be a bit over-wrought in places and in M form. I can't say that I like the squished face of the F30 line. I actually like the face of the current 6 Series a lot more than the 3, 4 and 5 series.

I drive a pre facelifted E90, to me the E90 LCI M-sport is one my favorite modern BMW's. It's really neck and neck between that and an S-line B8.5 A4/S4. I'd love to step into a B8.5 S4 in a year or two. Also, the 6 series gran coupe and regular coupe are probably my favorite looking BMW's currently in the lineup. So classy while still looking sporty.

Yeah, that has nice and clean lines, which the E92 M3 coupe seems to slightly overdo it in spots. That said, it's miles ahead of the C class sedan and is right there with the B8.5 S4.

Heh... there's no shame in driving a GTI. If I couldn't spend the money on an A5 or S5 that I wanted back then, the GTI would have been my go to choice.

What's wrong with the potato peeler wheels? I have them on my S5 cab (or I will this weekend after I swap off the winter tires/wheels) and I like them well enough.

I guess I'm just a bit more of a fan of the simpler and/or more open wheel designs, like the RS 4 and 20" C7 wheels. Also, I don't think they work on Sprint Blue that well.

Kinja'd!!! Dr Emilio Lizardo > Audi For Life
04/24/2014 at 22:06

Kinja'd!!!1

Mine is Estoril Blue, maybe that makes a difference. I also have chrome trim on the running boards, so a little more silver on the wheels kind of matches.

I can definitely see the attraction of simpler, not least of all since Audis seem to share the German brake dust problem with Mercedes an BMW. The S5 isn't quite as bad as my CLK320 was, but it is still almost impossible to keep wheels clean on them for more than an hour after washing. All that black dust.

Kinja'd!!! Audi For Life > Dr Emilio Lizardo
04/24/2014 at 23:09

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, I saw an Estoril Blue S4 with the peeler wheels and it worked well on that. I guess certain wheels look better on certain colors and body styles. Brake dust is part of the reason why I like simpler wheel designs.
