With all the recently rustled jimmies and ground gears about NSFW posts, I thought hump day would be a good day to see where we stand. So I've concocted a poll. Because of all this hate on NSFW posts, I'd like to see if this is like a 1 to 10% of you kind of thing or like 50% of you.

Kinja'd!!!

Personally I enjoy them. I enjoy pictures of lovely ladies. I enjoy when they pose with cars.... If they aren't scratching the paint. And I enjoy sharing them with those of you that DO enjoy them.

After all oppo is MOSTLY car related, but sometimes we like to vent about life shit, food, airplanes or that beautiful booty we saw on GIS or IMGUR.

See, I'm torn here, I prefer to not look at the ladies, because...well...I've found the perfect woman, my wife. Though I do understand that other guys like to look, and it should be clearly marked as "nsfw".

My issue is this, if I'm on oppo, surfing it at home and scrolling through the various posts, she might see "NSFW" and get upset with me. I don't have to look at the post, its just the idea that its there that will upset her. This also applies to work, if I'm surfing oppo on my lunch break (because i never search it any other time......), and a manager walks behind me, worst case scenario, we'll have a long talk.

To me, NSFW seems to be a non-issue issue. I would suggest we maintain the status quo, without rustling any more jimmies. Here's a Jimmy for rustling.

NSFW has no place on Oppo?

Am I on the right internet?

Here's my position:

Personally, I'm fine with the way we have it now (marked clearly, all hidden behind "safe" image). However, I like the idea of making OPPO a place that is welcoming to all gearheads, male or female, young or old. Some women are okay with posts like that (or even participate - $kay :) ), but I'm guessing most would honestly prefer they not be a part of OPPO. Also, while most of the people here are college-aged or a little older, there are young kids that find their way to OPPO, and it'd be nice if it was a place that their parents would have no issues with them being part of the community here. Lastly, I'd like to be able to occasionally share posts from here with friends and family without the concern that NSFW links might show up in the sidebar.

Like I said, I'm perfectly fine with OPPO's current stance on NSFW, and I know it's pretty much always been a small part of the site from the beginning - I just thought I'd share my personal preference.

Not trying to judge, but she would be critical of you brushing past "NSFW" while you're on the computer?

I don't care for NSFW posts, so I don't click them.

But a key part in that is that they are clearly labeled and no NSFW images appear above the jump.

A proper NSFW posts sets of minimal alarm bells, because the only thing that draws attention is the letters NSFW.

I'm sure the wife knows you are a frequenter of Jalopnik and Oppo and that you are surfing it because you like cars, not porn. If she were to fault you for every bit of scantily clad ladies on the internet you wouldn't even be able to go to MSN's or Yahoo's homepage.

If you have a boss hovering close enough to see the words NSFW on your browser he's probably already suspicious of you for a related or unrelated matter.

I understand your concern of sharing with friends/family. But usually the stuff I share with them, I'll grab the contents of the post, be it a youtube video, an image or an article and just send them that. They are people that I know would have no interest in oppo anyway.

Young kids on the internet are maybe a concern, but the internet is a concern as a whole... for their parents. But I do agree, this may be the strongest argument against NSFW, but honestly, when I was 14 I had already seen plenty of playboy and/or hustler magazines.

Haha, that's my opinion, it has been and always should be a part of oppo, we don't need to cater to the entire audience of the internet.

Yeah, I tend to do the same when sharing with certain people (would just be nice to feel the need to do so).

Every kid is different, and every family is different. I guess a Jalop can still share OPPO with his kid, with supervision. And just hope they don't ask their Mommy what NSFW stands for...

The people that have a problem can ignore or leave.

This place has always had this. I'm not a prude. I can handle a NSFW photo. I'm sure we all can, even the relationship'd/married amongst us.

Its the internet

Its nothing if not tits and vaginas and penises. People need to stop being so uptight.

Um....I would imagine so yes. It doesn't help that I used to look at pornography, so there's the initial distrust. On a related note, a lot of girls, not all of them mind you, feel uncomfortable with there bodies. They think they can't compete with what society's idea of "beauty" is; skinny, fashionable, barely clothed, etc. If she thinks I have a chance to see/view something like that, she wouldn't be too happy about it plus maybe beat herself up about it. I try to avoid that at all costs, but I do love Oppo and its a great community for car enthusiasts.

And thank you for not judging, I truly appreciate it. I'm just playing the other side of the field (a married man) and being extremely transparent. I know for a fact I can't be the only one in this boat, but I'm probably the first one to state all of this.

Yeah, I share oppo with likeminded people, when I want to show my mom a picture or article from here I tend to just give here the meat and potatoes of it, she doesn't need mine or your commentary on it.

As far as kids, I personally grew up with a fairly liberal mom as far as that is concerned.

I personally believe that boobs and butts do a kid way less harm than a violent movie or tv show. At the end of the day the internet is a hard place to police as far as a parent is concerned.

Our audience is what? 90% male? Any kid introduced to oppo is likely of driving age or close to driving age. How old were you when you first found a hidden playboy or your friend showed you his dads hustler? When did you first become interested in the girls in your school (or in some cases boys)? I think the avoidance of nudity gets far too much attention these days along with the a lack of education on sexual health. It concerns me. Haha.

Excuse my rant, lol.

She knows its a car site. She doesn't go on it to see its contents though. The NSFW posts are far and between, which is nice and convenient. And some people get upset easily, I have no control over that. I wouldn't have her any other way though. :)

Exactly. We shouldn't attempt to cater to everyone on the internet! Websites are successful because they cater to a group of like-minded people. We are successful because we attracted a large enough group of like-minded people to warrant Oppo in the first place.

Also people worry about kids, but seriously we are 90% male audience, probably more and we as boys probably saw our first playboy at age 14. An NSFW post is no different. If it were my kids I'd be more worried about them seeing explicit violence at a young age.

Ah. Got it. I understand the body issues as well (almost every single girl friend I've had didn't like something about their body). Relationships vary; I know my GF probably wouldn't look twice if some half-naked girl showed up on my screen, but I would definitely get shit if she saw anything worse than that.

My thoughts on the matter

1) If we allow tasteful NSFW pictures (basically no hardcore fornication on the site) then we need to allow them ALL and yes, this means dudes. I saw one once and immediately jumped to the comments. I got what I expected - people complaining that NSFW did not automatically mean boobs

2) I think NSFW should be allowed as long as it's kept behind the safe image and text. I would also like to see more people crediting photographers/models.

3) Overall, I think the idea of having these polls and posts "decide the fate of NSFW" is dumb because that means if I'm tired of say, diecast car posts or Victorious Secret posts, then it's just a quick poll away from never bothering me again! When the reality of it should be I just have to ignore it. And let's be honest - way more hotwheels cars are posted than NSFW these days.

4) A lot of people need to work a pole out of their ass. It's hypocritical to ask for all NSFW content to be female while demanding that NSFW content be allowed. It is also hypocritical to say that for every other type of post (F1, car review, RCR, youtube links) they can just be ignored, but because NSFW posts contain people wearing little to no clothing, they can't be had at all.

Love NSFW. A lot of younger guys go through a metrosexual phase because they think that's what women want. Got news for them.....evolution doesn't care. Women want strong secure men. Women love to be loved and men shouldn't feel bad about it if they are willing to let themselves be photographed at the height of their beauty. Trust me, it's fleeting.

Ever here of a placed called Greece?...they made these things called sculptures...based on the beauty of the human body. Photos are no different. I'm married to a beautiful girl and she too likes looking at pretty girls. I like form and we both appreciate style and photography. Hell, I manned up the other day and acknowledged to my wife that Brad Pitt may actually have a better body than me while watching one of his movies...she just laughed.

1) We are mostly dudes, so we mostly post girls, but yes, you could post dudes if you wanted to.

2) True.

3) NSFW is way more polarizing than diecast, hotwheels or VS. Which is why I brought it up.

4) I don't know of anyone demanding NSFW being female only. But on a website with 90% dudes of which most prefer girls. So something with dudes would have to be specially marked, because probably 98% of us don't want to see it. Oppo caters to a specific crowd and most of them don't want to see naked men. But if you want to cater to the 2% (maybe more maybe less) Feel free.

Well yeah... Brad Pitt looks good, not hard to admit. Like you said we can all appreciate the human form, male, female, clothed or naked. Oppo has always allowed us to post some off-topic (non-car) stuff, so NSFW should be allowed too.

At the end of the day the poll backs up that sentiment.

I feel like I'm about to post a Jez type comment on here but basically your arguments are BS. Just because our website is mostly men does not mean that NSFW featuring dudes needs any more special of a tag than female nudity. Just put something like NSFW - dudes ahoy! or something similar to how I've seen people post NSFW with whatever ethnicity or body type or whatever in their title.

And why is the NSFW stuff polarizing when people have gotten at my throat for having an opinion on cars that differs from the masses? I have been lambasted more for having the gall to say that a FWD car can be fast more than anyone has for posting any NSFW content. So no, I don't buy that the NSFW posts are "polarizing". Having any opinion that differs from the consensus on cars on a car site is polarizing.

Yes, "dudes ahoy" would be all the warning I need. I wasn't asking for anything more.

as for your 2nd paragraph. We aren't going to start polls regarding every little topic on this website, but since NSFW got a lot of heat lately I thought it'd be good to lay this out in percentages, so that I still feel comfortable posting it!
