I've been playing around with some maps and stuff, and I've figured out something, If I wanted to (and had the money) I could visit EVERY state (excluding Hawaii) in the United States by car in less than two months, and STILL be able to see tons of cool stuff.. I now know what I'll do if I win the lottery..
Anyone else have a dream trip if they got their hands on tons of money?
Edit: Route 66 (credits to GTCL for that one) would be cool, sure.. we all would like that. But I'd like something a bit more "outside the box"

I know it is a bit cliche, but I want to do the Route 66 trip in a 1950s car. I figure that if I'm going to drive the "old" road I may as well do it in a car from the right time period.

I'd like that myself. I don't think I was clear enough though, what I meant was something more "epic".. Almost anyone could do the 66 if they wanted to (or managed to save up some money).
I'm not saying it's a BAD choice though :)

I'd do that too, but my avatar hints to a Monaco as a preferred car to take on the trip...

Australia, arrive, buy 1992 Brumby* with 2003 motor, walkabout with petrol.
*substitute Falcon or Holden Ute but that might attract attention.

oh, I know it is not quite an epic trip. That is why I don't want to do it in a modern car. I figure doing it in a car with modern comforts is too easy and lacks the experience, emotion, connection with the trip.
On the other hand I did read a blog one time where this couple drove from California to Patagonia. That would have been an epic trip.

Only if it has the megaphone on the roof. ;)

Fair enough :) I'm "cheating" somewhat. If I'd ever have the money to take a two month vacation and drive around the US I'd do it in a new car, Audi A8 Diesel or something, not because of the comfort, but so that I wouldn't have to stop for fuel all the time.
Now Cali to Patagonia tho' THAT sounds epic :)

I don't travel much abroad but I'd like to visit Japan and Cuba in my lifetime. Few cheaper destinations would be a Gatebil event and northern Norway although I've already been to a roadtrip to Lofoten once. BTW I highly recommend visiting there if you haven't already it's really beautiful there.

Japan and Cuba is on my top five list.. As for Norway... well.. I live there, so I've seen most of it :)

Yeah, that's why I recommended it :) You never know, most of my friends have never been to Lapland despite visiting places all over the world

My wife and I did MD to Vegas and back last year, it was awesome. We were heading West through New Orleans ibut there was a hurricane so we veered a bit North and went:
West through Memphis, Little Rock, OK City, the top of TX (Big Texan Steak Ranch!), and then down along through Roswell, Tucson, Phoenix, and Vegas (2 days).
Then back East through 4 Corners, CO Springs, Denver, Kansas, Kansas, more Kansas, Kansas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Louisville, and back to DC.
Just one of many paths, I would love to do the Northern route next time. Originally we were going to do this route to San Diego, then up through Monterry, San Francisco, Portland and up across the Northern route into Canadia a couple of times, Chicago and then back. But that was a haul and we only had 2 weeks. Let us know what you decide, I highly recommend at least doing over and back.

Yeah, I know people like that as well. And you could not know that I used to drive a truck (semi, lorry.) I've seen most of Norway and Sweden. I even have friends that have NEVER been to the nearest "village" here... they've been all over the world, yet they have never been to the best pizza place in our county (15 miles away if that).

Well.. my income now is 2k US$ per month.. that's before I've paid any tax. My appartment is about 950 US$ per month.. There's no way I can pay for a trip like that now. :(
Edit: Just to put things in perspective here, a big mac would be almost 8 bucks here, a full big mac meal would be 16 bucks.

All I'm saying is, one has to find a way to make trips and experiences like this happen in life. We all have our own unique circumstances, and there will always be reasons to not take a trip like this. If it's something you really want to do, find a way to make it happen (maybe not now, but keep working toward it).

Norway, I don't recall the spesific NOK vs USD thingy now.. Nor do I remember the exact amount you must pay for a Big Mac.. but it's somewhere between 7 and 8 $US.

While it's probably worth living in such a beautiful place (look forward to visiting one day), despite the low salary and high cost of living, perhaps it's time for a change of scenery for better opportunity?

Low salary? We don't have a low.. Oh.. fuck.. I forgot something in my previous post.. I work only 25% (40 hours per month) because I'm ill (mental problems, anxiety and stuff). Really sorry about that. The cost of living IS high, but the salary is as well..

$2k for 10 hours/week isn't bad at all! Sorry to hear of your troubles, hope you're mostly free of all that some day soon.

It's not bad, but it's just enough to survive on. Never meant to dump my shitty problems on oppo though, sorry about that. And thanks, everyday is a fight, a fight I'm winning :)

Legoland. When I got married, my wife and I really wanted to go to Legoland in California. Money and a timeframe prevented us. We instead traveled from MI (where we got hitched) to FL (where we were going to live....i learned from that mistake) on mostly i75. We went to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, the Corvete Museum (pre-sinkhole), and some other places. It's worth the drive.

I bet it is :) If you'll ever get the money, I'd recommend a trip up here in Scandinavia, prefarably late autumn. You can visit Denmark (and the original Legoland) and southern Sweden and it'll be rather warm. Then you could come visit Norway at the end of the trip :)

I'll keep it in mind, lol. We're back in Michigan again, and of course Florida got a Legoland of its own on the other side of the state. I cant win, lol

No worries. Part of what I love about OPPO is that we all support each other. It's honestly unlike any other online community I've been a part of...
Awesome to hear that you're confident of victory in your fight! My mom has struggled with these issues in her life (bipolar), and we're so thankful that she's been of healthy mind for many years now.
