Both of these have real miles too, 70k-ish.

2004 Fiat Panda, the cheapest was under £7k, call it £6500 after haggling - I think that was the cheapest car on sale in Europe at the time. Now still worth about £1k. That's £5k depreciation in ten years. Percentagewise, nothing special. But it's probably the smallest financial loss, so in one sense it's depreciated the least.

Well, I was thinking that half the value of the Corvette is still $26k in depreciation. $2.5k a year isn't bad at all, but bangernomics has that well beaten. Not sure the same is true with the Panda - it's definitely a challenger, given the (probable) lower running costs over the ten year period.

The Civic and Fit hold their value extremely well. It is difficult to find a fit for under 10k—and they go for like 15k new! OK fine, the Fit came out in 06 and so did the 8th-gen Civic, but the 7.5-gen Civic is still fairly expensive too

That's hardly a downside. I've made the case on here before that the second-gen Panda could be considered one of the greatest cars ever made, thanks to its combination of fun, practicality and economy. It's a bit of an oddity, because thanks to the success of the 500's trendy looks Fiat never made as much of the Panda as they could have done - although they still sold two million of them.

True, a 2001/2002 car would be more than a decade old.
I haven't tried to sell mine, but I bought used at the right time (2007) and could probably break even if you don't count maintenance costs. I've dropped many a grand on mine keeping it in peak mechanical condition while still managing to rack up 76K miles. The only complaint a buyer might have on mine would be the paintwork - lots of little nicks and chips from stones and whatnot on the road.

My friend once bought a Tacoma stripper for $10K new. He woke up early and saw a dealer ad for a sale that said "1 at this price". He left the house right away and sure enough the car was actually there.
He drove it for 5 years and sold it for $10K :)

04/22/2014 at 01:07 | 0 |
And what's crazy about that is that you know those used ones for sale have been tracked. I don't care if the ad says "never been tracked". The original GT3 wasn't that well known outside of the track junky circles so most of them were actually tracked. It became more well known by the 997 version so more of them were used purely as road cars. But I would never trust a 996 GT3 to never have been tracked unless it was one owner and I knew and trusted the owner.

It blows my mind that the Ford GT was only 140K when it came out.

I actually did buy some at $185 and sold it when it had doubled - guess I should have held on all the way to $700!

That's bad@ss. I bought a two year old loaded Grand Cherokee in 2008 for $11K with 22k miles. I traded it in a year later and got $15K for it.
