As a New Jersey teenager on Easter break, I sat playing Gran Turismo 6 on my bed and eating jelly beans, enjoying breaking my wrists trying to drive the RUF BTR on the Nurburgring with my G25 racing wheel, and waking everyone else in my house up doing so. That's when I began thinking about the BTR's bigger brother, the CTR Yellowbird. I pulled my laptop out, and went on YouTube to find what is quite possibly one of the greatest driving videos of all time, courtesy of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! around the Nurburgring Nordschliefe and showing just how brutal of a machine it was. The Yellowbird took no prisoners. In eessence, the body was a lightened version of the 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2. Despite the fairly normal looking exterior !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the insides of the CTR were completely different, and extremely rad. The displacement of the engine was upped from 3.2 to 3.4 litres, and a Bosch fuel injection system was installed, as well as the ignition setup for the Porsche 962. To top it off, they crammed two massive, specially designed turbochargers, as well as twin intercoolers, into the rear-mounted engine. With these modifications, the Yellowbird managed to become the world's fastest production car in 1987, clocking in at 212 miles per hour. 0 to 60 was also done in a back breaking 3.7 seconds. (And this was before launch control.) The car also held the lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschliefe for a decent amount of time.

With only 29 example built, there's no doubt that if ever seen in the wild, things will probably begin to stir in an enthusiast's pants. Of course, this didn't stop the RUF from appearing in the anime Wangan Midnight as Blackbird. (A black Yellowbird????!!!!) The RUF was also featured in pretty much any solid racing simulator, and is seen as the car that made RUF as popular as it is today.
