Spoiler alert! I hate this car!
Look at that character line. LOOK AT IT.
IT'S HIDEOUS
"Yes, let's give the car ANGRY TAILLIGHTS"
"And then we'll give them EYEBROWS. And we'll wrap these eyebrows around to the SIDE OF THE CAR to form a character line. This line will then slope down to the middle of the front wheel well like an 80 year old man's drooping semi-erection!"
"Hey bob!"
"Yeah Frank?"
"Even better! Let's put the door handles ALONG THE LINE so that the front one is obnoxiously slanted and lower than the rear on!"
"HOLY SHIT ON A STICK DAN THAT'S A FANTASTIC IDEA YOU GET A RAISE"
"My name is Frank."
"WELL FRANK DOESN'T GET A RAISE! DAN DOES!"
I might be trying too hard with this narrative.
Either way, what's your thoughts on this car? This particular design decision makes me irrationally angry every time I see it (and these cars are absolutely EVERYWHERE) and I was wondering what everyone else thinks of it.
I know absolutely nothing else about this car, however. I assume it has an engine somewhere that puts out something resembling power that moves it along at a speed of four turtles (1/8 of a rabbit).

Instead of building plain and boring cars Hyundai needed something to grab attention. That's why the Sonata looks the way it does.
Some will love it and either will hate it. But at least it's not plain and gets people talking.

Does nothing for me... Brazilian car mags go apeshift over the "aggressive, audacious, innovative styling", but, IMO, it looks like any other old Hyundai; a blob which had every single of its flat surfaces cut, stretched and folded for no reason whatsoever.

I like that they at least try.

My father likes it, but I don't, it's just a cheap car trying to be expensive IMO.

How Hyundai designed the Sonata:
Step one- Purchase 2009 VW Passat CC
Step two- ???
Step three- Profit

It seems like this feature is on all Hyundai models but the "plunge" is the most prominent on the Sonata.

I have a 2012 with a manual as a daily. It's……..pretty good. It's not gonna wow anyone driving wise, but it's a manual, and all cars CAN be driven fun. And for all the shit I put it through (I beat on it harder than the blues mobile) it's held up fairly decently. As for the styling, well, I'm inside of it most of the time, so it's not like i have to constantly stare at the exterior. I thought it looked "too french" when it came out, didn't like it at all, then a year and several bad car buying decisions later I decided I needed something with a warranty, modern, comfortable, and reliable enough to get me through HS and college. Turned out the price on the Hyundai was right (a tad over $18k (NEW!) when all was said and done), and it seemed like the most car I could get for the money. No horror stories, wouldn't buy another though (I like my particular sonata way too much to try to replace it with something else from them), like I said, it's seemingly supernatural durability has solidified its place in my heart, and holy shit does that car have some stories to tell. Maybe I'll get into some if you really want me too.
TL;DR I have one, and I like it just fine, wouldn't buy another, but not why you'd think.

Wow, they look remarkably similar, but that Passat looks fantastic.

About what it think of the Kia 900 and the VW Phaeton.
Yeah, we are going to sell you a "premium car" from a generic company.

I had one when my e39 m5 was in the shop and surprisingly I loved it...at one point I contemplated on getting rid of true m5 and getting one of these cuz the feul mileage and maintaince were so freakin cheap....but luckily I came to my senses and kept the money pit of an m5

They look nothing alike. The Hyundai is going for a bold design that some either love or hate and the VW is...just some car. It's a disgustingly dull vehicle.

They both have "4-door coupe" styling. They both have a character line that starts mid upper wheel arch that follows the same slope towards the tail lights. The hood lines are carried back to the window line in the same manner. They both have the same trunk lid uptick
The taillights follow the same downward slope.
The Hyundai is not unique. It is not bold. It is following the same styling trends of the VW, which follows the same styling of the Mercedes CLS

In the manual version of the sonata, is the parking brake a pedal next to the clutch? I know that in the automatic version of the sonata it's a pedal on the left side.

As a valet parker, I like these because they're simple. There's No annoying bongs for not wearing my seatbelt, and all the controls are where I expect them to be.
what I don't like is that it's very similar to an camry or an altima, but it's about a foot longer and the rear visibility is worse.
I have exactly the same feelings toward the new ford fusion.

Nah it has a hand brake. I sort of wish it were because that would look absolutely bonkers.

that's good that hyundai's designers changed the position of the parking brake and made it a hand brake.
it's my pet peeve when I drive a manual car that doesn't have a traditional hand brake.
