They're totally different cars. One is a practical, fun, economical, fast little hatch, and the other is a big, heavy, impractical muscle car with the base engine. Sure, the Mustang will be faster, but I can tell you that the Fiesta is much more fun to drive.

The new V6 in the Mustang quick but it doesn't quite feel like the 300hp it puts out. That probably has something to do with its ~3600 lbs weight, and the fact that it makes it's power much higher in the rev range. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, but the Fiesta is just that much fun. Part of the reason for that is because Ford severely underrated that engine from the factory, since people are seeing torque numbers upwards of 230 ft lbs at the wheel stock. That's a hell of a lot more than Ford claims, and that's actually pretty close to what Motor Trend Dyno'd the Mustang at with 247 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. Oh and the Fiesta weighs almost 1000lbs less.

Drive one and you'll see for yourself.

Your right not to get the paint and interior protection. If applied incorrectly (which it often is by a dealership) is a great waste of money. Best to do it yourself or get a respectable detailer to do it for you.

Well apart from those things about who is faster or lighter, here's my reasons of why i dont understand those who pick the fiesta.
- Its fwd, so no sideways fun, you know it isn't the same with the hand brake
-The looks (matter of opinion, but to me mustang vs hatchback is a no brainer)
- I dont see anything special in the interior of the fiesta, while the Rustang Retro styling interior makes the ride feel real cool.

Anyways those 2 are very different cars,
but from hatchbacks, i would definitely go with a Subaru impreza STI (i dont know about the prices though)

My point is on your daily commute, how often do you get the tail out?

I'm pretty certain that a car like the a Fiesta where you can drive like a madman on public roads and not cause mayhem is way more fun than a heavy RWD pony car. As a DD, you're better off in the Fiesta

When i had some old worn tires i did it everyday, (when no cars were close) now with the new tires i am taking care of them. As DD in practicality your fiesta wins. but then you could get an STI. AWD and you get a Boxer.
