I'm not saying it's wrong... but it's wrong. Very wrong. So wrong, in fact, I don't even know where to start. I mean, it just goes straight up against everything Jalopnik stands for by saying that, no, you're not a car guy if you don't drive something very expensive to draw your neighbors' envy. Nevermind that gearheads have what is probably the most varied of passions, ranging from the old and slow horseless carriages to the high tech, superspeeders. Nevermind that many of these gearheads drive something they either put together or keep together on their own, with their own ingenuity and labor. When the high and mighty RFC rolls around, you better hide that fruit of your labor in shame, lest you be recognized as a lazy, fat failure unworthy of a such a car.
Lexus, I can't comment on your ad, but if I could, I'd tell you that, no, envy is not what I feel towards the entitled douches (Yummies, perhaps?) you're aiming your product at. What I feel is more akin to pity because I may drive an old, worthless hatchback, but the stories I share with my car are something your "car guys" will never have in their RFCs, at least not with that kind of attitude. A little "eye of the tiger" you say? Try dragging a fully charged battery through two bus rides to replace the one your car killed thanks to a cooling fan problem, then fixing the fan with nothing but a cell phone to light your way through a cluttered engine bay. Or how about smuggling suspension parts across a national border because the ones made where you live are crap? Multiple times? That "eye of the Tiger" enough for you? Because if you can't respect my kind of hard work, I can't respect your ad or your product.

It all makes sense now. My coworker was telling me I'm not a car guy and I had no idea what basis he was using to determine that. Apparently it was a bullshit Lexus ad.

It's terrible stupid when erectile dysfunction ads understand what being a car guy is about far better than a *car-maker* does.

The same thing happened either yesterday or the day before with a Subaru ad, and no one noticed.

Yep, we've been venting about his clusterfuck in this thread too: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/on-envy-might-…

You mean the one about the (nearly) self driving bullshit that Subaru developed? All I thought while reading it was, "wow, this is going to make trackdays WAY less fun in future Subarus"

Ah, gotcha, I'm still getting up to speed on this week's developments now that we (probably) have power back on.

Huh, there are ads for medications in the US? Weird :p
But yeah, they seem get the point better than Lexus.

Probably. I didn't read it.

The one about road safety? I glanced over it on mobile while power was out, so I didn't catch it was an ad immediately, but I'll have to take a look at it.

Probably, I just ignored it.

Honestly I wouldn't mind the stupid adds if they let us comment. What better way to see if advertising actually resonates with the target audience than seeing how quickly they tear it to pieces in the comment section.

You mean the one where one of the first sentences contained the word 'cancer'? 'Cause that's all i remember about the "article". Great marketing job.. You just made me link Subaru with cancer.
