Cue Laguna Seca
F1 Ferrari F2003-GA (V10) vs. CART Reynard 98i-Honda (1998)
F1 Toyota TF106 (V8, 2006) vs. CART Reynard 2KI-Honda (2000) [NOTE: video on the left is NOT of the Penske, but a later-gen Champ Car - it's just for reference]
Finally, let's see some oval action at Twin Ring Motegi:

Given how I heard the difference between the Champ Cars and F1 cars on Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was around six seconds I'm surprised the Honda was only 3 seconds slower than successor to the fastest F1 car ever (the F2002).

If you think about it, 3 seconds is actually quite a lot. And with the V8 cars they fiddled much more with aerodynamics..

On a small track like Laguna Seca yes, but given the fact that A.Ferrari had unlimited development and no cost caps, making the F2003-GA a hell of a lot more expensive to develop B. The fact that it is 5 years older than the 98i and F1's regs were fairly stable at the time (I believe) C. The fact the entire 98i chassis has to be compromised and the wheelbase has to be longer due to the ovals, 3 seconds doesn't seem THAT bad. Still I would like the time to be closer, maybe like 1.5 secs would make me feel a lot more comfortable for some reason.

The f2004 was the fastest ever. Look at the tracks that were in the same configuration in 2002 and 2004 and i guarantee that the fastest race lap will be a 2004 car (usually the f2004). The only reason that the qualifying times were close between 2004 and 2002 is that in 2002 qualifying didn't have to be done with race requirements (fuel, etc) as well as stricter limits for engines and gearboxes in a weekend.

F2004 was the fastest ever. compare fastest race laps between 2002 and 2004 and I guarantee that the fastest lap in 2004 will be faster than the one from 2002 (and will usually be set by the F2004. The qualifying times are similar between the two years, but in 2002, cars could qualify on low fuel and other factors that allowed a faster single lap, and after 2002 limits on engines and gearbox changes in a weekend were tightened.

Does anyone know what is going on in the 3rd video? What are the three cars and what order do they finish in? To me, it looks like the first two are F1 and the last one is Indy...but I can't tell....Gosh I wish Americans would make the Indy 500 special again by opening up the regulations to allow for heavier F1 cars like they did in the 60s...it should be a "bring what you built" sort of race rather than the identical Dallara chassis and Honda engines that are so boring to watch.

It's just a demonstration at Twin Ring Motegi.
