Two years ago, shortly after having graduated from university, I started a temp position at a school near my then hometown Heidelberg. As I arrived there only a few months before the end of the school year, and it was already clear that I was going to leave after that, I wasn't exactly in a bonding mood, and neither were the other teachers. Don't get me wrong here, they were all very friendly and helped me as best as they could and were always open to any question I had. Except for this petite P.E. teacher who would actively chat me up. I now follow the rule of "don't shit where you eat", had to learn that the hard way, so I didn't make a move. But I almost fainted when I saw her arriving on the teachers' car park one morning.
She drove a blaaaaaaack E81! Looking pretty much like the one in this picture. A car I always considered to be the clownshoe's little brother, or maybe it's son or whatever.
A two-door hatch (I always have trouble counting the hatch as a real door, as only dead hookers will actually enter/leave a vehicle through it.) with a rather short cabin and a relatively long bonnet. Just a tiny bit more practical. And a little bit more attainable as well.
So where do we put it on the family map? Is it the clownshoe's little brother/son/cousin once removed whom you have to invite to weddings but secretely hope he won't show up?
And well, whatever you say, I just like them (some of that may or may not be because of this P.E. teacher).

Why couldn't they sell these in America? It would be awesome to pick one up used in a couple years, but NOPE.

Well, I'm currently torn between this and that as my next car. Given that I'm a "keeper" and probably won't buy another used vehicle until my Honda bites the dust, that might take a while. Maybe all the good one-owner, high-spec, E81s will have been snatched up by people faster than me? Unsure what to lust after and what is realistic, as I am currently DDing a car that doesn't seem t shit it's bed anytime soon.

I think I'd rather have the BMW over the Skoda, but just barely. The BMW is smaller, lighter, and in some trims, more powerful. Plus larger aftermarket support.
