I'm not sure. I struggle to tell the difference between the Venom and the Vampire. This may be a de-navalized Sea Venom, from the look of the canopy, but it's hard to say with my limited knowledge.

Fair enough. :X I admit to often forgetting to look up reg. numbers on planes. I was perplexed a bit as to how it had a Venom-like canopy (late production explains it), and how it was Royal Navy without the requisite carrier gear of the Sea Venom or Sea Vampire. It makes sense, though, that RN pilots would be trained in a land-based version early on, before training for carrier landing.
The US Marine Corps operated a number of the Venom/Vampire's contemporaries in forms never modified for naval use either, so it's not a shock.

Yeah, I love being able to look up reg numbers online. I can usually ID more modern military jets, but earlier stuff like this, and pretty much all civil/commercial aviation I'm less versed in, so being able to find the registry is a big help.

As a side note, this stirred the memory of having read about a Marine-operated fighter that was designed for Navy use, but generally not used due to setting teak decks on fire and suffering undue Foreign Object Damage. It was a bitch to figure out that it was the F3D Skyknight I was thinking of. Perversely, it shot down more aircraft over Korea than any other naval entrant. I've got a picture in a book showing a screen fitted to stop the engine from eating gravel constantly.
