...of hearing about this GM ignition switch recall.

That's been all the Morning Shift 1st thru 3rd gears have been for the last month or so for the most part. Whether it be a new development, or more information about it. I'm just sick of hearing about it. What about the other companies that slid in recalls under the GM fiasco? Or other automotive related things, like say, new cars that have been released at NYIAS. Or maybe some other automotive new that's, I dunno, positive. And no, this isn't my GM favoritism talking, I'm just genuinely tired of hearing about it.

/Endrant. Sky Redline for you.

Felt the same way about the Toyota recall a few years back. Stop beating a dead horse media.

That recall damn near drove me insane. It got to the point I wouldn't get on any New/Automotive website or watch the news for months.

Saturn's swan song. Love that little roadster. Looks 110x better than its sister...

I preferred the Sky over the Miata the entire time it was in production, still do honestly. I'm still waiting for Buick or Chevy to reintroduce it. Lovely little roadster.

Can't disagree with that assessment. The Solstice/Sky and their platform mates captured what made the Miata so desirable then dashed in some luxury, extra refinement, and a sprinkle of more speed.

Sprinkle of more speed? The redline had a 100hp advantage over the Miata.

I guess you didn't buy, don't know anyone that drives/owns or has owned, sold or re-sold, and/or have never been a passenger in one of those cars. You definitely don't know someone who died. You must be from...I don't know, Kenya?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but seriously - it's a huge deal! We, as Jalops and Opponauts, must hold our automakers to the highest of standards! Imagine if that many people died from a food product or an OTC medicine. Not only that, there's some pretty incriminating evidence here against GM that some knew long ago.

I know plenty of people who own/owned a vehicle in the recall. My mom's Vue has even shut off a couple times. Do I feel less safe driving one of these cars? No. Because I have the common sense to think once it shuts off to put it in neutral and turn it back on, as do all the other people I know that own an affected car. It's the idiots who freak the fuck out and flail at the wheel trying to figure out what to do that get killed, probably because they got into an accident from fucking around at the wheel. New GM knows their old counterpart fucked up and is doing their best to fix the issue.

I've been in plenty of non-GM cars that have had catastrophic failures behind the wheel. Yes, most were not intentional in design. But as I commented one morning - VW ignition switches for the Mk3 Golf/jetta cause all exterior lights to fail. Think about that for a second. Part failure = no lights. YOU THINK THAT'S SAFE?!?!?!? And engine cutoff is possible too. Not likely, but in some cases it happens. The ignition switch is one of those parts that no matter what car it's in, bad things tend to happen when it fails as it is usually a critical part of the car checking to see if it is in use.

The difference between this recall, and say, the Jeep recall, is that this is happening sooooooooo slowly. It's not just the speed, but that each new revelation is fairly newsworthy. The congressional investigation is a large part of the reason why.

It's always congress. Stupid US government.

Tried to word it in a way that would be nice to the Miata. xD

Screw that! They could kill a Miata in a straight line, and probably in the twisties.

Not to side with an evil corporation... but this is so overblown. GM sells nearly 10,000,000 cars a year. 13 deaths have possibly been linked to this defect. Frankly, I am having a difficult time understanding how this statically low number could have ever been identified as an issue. What is the process of identifying defects anyway? And I'm not talking about a lone email sent internally. Sending emails is not a "process."

Can't argue with that! And that's another reason the twins were awesome. They looked completely different and catered to different tastes.
